Stipe Pletikosa Celtic newsNeil Lennon is considering a short term contract for Croatian keeper Stripe Pletikosa.

The former Spartak Moscow man played as a tralist last night against Cradiff City but had little to do as Celtic eased to a 1-0 win over Malky Mackay’s side.

Lennon intends playing Lucasz Zaluska against Hibs on Sunday but has been impressed by Pletikosa.

The Celtic boss said: “The keeper didn’t have much to do. Maybe one or two saves but whatever he did he handled it comfortably.

“It will be difficult to sign him on the evidence of that tonight but we have to make a decision.

“We will see what happens over the next few days. A short-term contract could be possible.

“I know the season starts on Sunday but we have a good keeper in Lukasz Zaluska and he can hold the fort until we get another one in.

“We have some options we are looking at. I was impressed with Stipe. He was confident and he is in pole position.”

Belgian keeper Stijn Stijnen is still an option despite claims that he had refused to go on trial with highly rated Polish keeper Grzegorz Sandomierski also an option.

Last season’s first choice keeper Fraser Forster was an unused substitute as Newcastle opened their three match tour of the United States with a 0-0 draw against Kansas City.

  • How do you think Zaluska is feeling this morning after reading that below from Lennon, some times Lennon needs to be wiser his words with the media.

“I know the season starts on Sunday but we have a good keeper in Lukasz Zaluska and he can hold the fort until we get another one in.

Maybe Lennon is being clever here, Zaluska has not shown enough so far to take 1st pick keeper for us, but this is a chance for him to step up, if he plays well enough it could be he is given a shot for the following game and so on, if not then he has been given his chance and not taken it.

  • Joe McHugh says:

Zaluska isn’t a mug- he knows that he has an outside chance to make the position his.

He is the only keeper at Celtic with first team experience but has played less than 30 matches.

He knows that someone will be coming in but has the chance to show that the keeper that kept a clean sheet v Rangers in the Scottish Cup is available rather than the one involved in the collective nightmare in Utrecht.
