Next Gen Celtic NewsCeltic’s youth side step up their pre-season preparations by travelling to Germany to take part in the Offenburg Cup over the weekend.

Racing Strasbourg of France, Basel of Switzerland and German side Freiburg are all based within an hour of Offenburg and will join Celtic in the event.

In less than a months time Celtic will travel to face Olympique Marseilles in the opening match of the Next Gen Series with Tommy McIntyre looking on this weekend as ideal preparation for the new look European tourney.

The Celtic coach said: “This is a great tournament to look forward to against a good standard of opposition.

“FC Basel are also in the Next Gen Serious so that will give us a look at the standard we can expect. Swiss football has been very strong at underage level for a few years now and won the u-17 World Cup a few years ago with seven of those players coming from Basel.

“It’ll be good to test ourselves against quality opposition. All of the teams will be strong, we like to do well but it’s about building the players up for the start of the season and testing them.

“We’re delighted with the way they are looking in training, we want to keep that going, work on the right things and give them some good matches to compliment their training.”
