Tony Watt Celtic newsCeltic’s u-19 side lost out 4-3 on penalties to SC Frieburg in the final of the Offenburg Cup in Germany today.

After a 2-2 draw with goals coming from Tony Watt and a trialist Celtic were edged out in a penalty shoot out.

Earlier in the afternoon a goal from Rhys Williamson gave Celtic a 1-0 win over FC Basel with a friendly lined up tomorrow against host club Offenburg FV.

Looking back on the day coach Tommy McIntyre said: “It’s disappointing to lose out on the lottery of penalty kicks but it’s been a great day as far as we’re concerned.

“Everyone has had plenty of game time and their fitness has stood up well. We played two different systems in both matches and it was good to see how the players adapted.

“These events are good for getting players together and there’s a few new faces in the squad that are settling in and impressing.

“Rhys Williamson scored with a header from a Patrik Twardzik cross against Basel and he’s quickly made himself at home.

“We’ve got a few knocks to assess and we’ll see how the players are overnight before the match tomorrow. It’s been a good step up in match fitness for the players and we’re looking forward to tomorrow’s match.”

RESULTS: Basel 0-1 Celtic, SC Freiburg 2-2 Celtic, Freiburg win 4-3 on penalties
