Scott Brown Celtic newsScott Brown has revealed that he is close to signing an extension to his Celtic contract.

The midfielder signed from Hibs in 2007 in a £4.4m deal and is out of contract at the end of this season.

Discussing the contract negotiations he admitted: “I’m happy to say we’re getting very close to agreeing a contract extension.

“I’ve said all along I’m very settled at Celtic and that I would love to sign a new deal. Now, as I say, we’re very close and I’m delighted about that.”

Brown enjoyed his best ever season last term after being confirmed as captain by Neil Lennon.

After missing two months of the season due to a recurring foot injury he returned to the side in the new year and alongside Biram Kayal brought new energy and purpose to Lennon’s side.

Brown’s lack of goals has often been highlighted but his equalising goal at Ibrox in the Scottish Cup became one of the iconic moments of the season.

After curling a left footed shot around Allan McGregor the midfielder stretched his arms out and turned around to face El Hadji Diouf, for reasons best known to himself Calum Murray decided to book the Celtic skipper.

What about improved contracts for Kayal and Izaguirre. To me far more important than Brown

    Weemarty,

I hear what u are saying re Izzy and Beram and I agree with u that they are arguably more valuable to Celtic than Scoosh but the bottom line is that Scoosh will be out of contract at the end of this season and, if we don’t extend his contract, we might as well punt him now for a reduced fee or risk losing him for absolutely nothing come January. I would rather recoup some of the dough we paid Hibs.

I’m sure negotiations with Izzy and Beram are ongoing.
