internet Celtic news The ‘Talent Nation’ sporting website was forced into liquidation yesterday over allegations that it’s owner, Steve Sampson, pocketed £500,000 from Scottish Enterprise.

Scott Brown, Lee Naylor and Gary Caldwell were all featured on Talent Nation with a few comments with Brown making their way onto the sports pages.

Scottish Enterprise invested £1m into Talent Nation with claims that half of that sum were transferred into a personal account held by Sampson and his wife Elizabeth. Samson is a former editor of the Scottish Sun.

Brown’s last comment on the site came after May’s Scottish Cup Final when he said: “What a weekend. gr8 result 4 the lads and it feels brilliant to have finished the season with some silverware. on a personal level, I loved lifting the cup as captain. let’s get a good summer under our belts and come back fully prepared 4 next season.”

Before the final weekend of the Premiership with Wigan involved in the relegation battle Caldwell said: “This weekend is one of the most important games I have ever been involved in. Looking at the table and how close a number of teams are from survival. It’s coming at a time when we’re playing well and have the confidence to get three points.”

According to a report in the Herald, Scottish Enterprise began to investigate the venture just days before £500,000 was transferred into Sampson’s account.

A spokesman for Scottish Enterprise yesterday said: “We can confirm that Talent Nation plc is now in liquidation and the liquidator can proceed to wind up the company and act as necessary in the interests of the taxpayer and those dealing with the company.

“Pursuing this court action is unprecedented for Scottish Enterprise and until such time as the liquidation is complete it is unlikely we will be in a position to take any decision on whether any further action will be pursued.”

Meanwhile the popularity of twitter continues to grow with Celtic u-19 defenders Marcus Fraser and Joe Chalmers amongst the latest recruits.

Left back Chalmers and Fraser have come through the ranks together at Celtic but judging by yesterday’s tweets a career in catering seems unlikely.
