Frank McGarvey Celtic newsGeorgios Samaras’ agent has threatened to sue Frank McGarvey and warned the striker’s critics to ease off.

McGarvey delivered a scathing attack on the Celtic striker’s display at Ibrox with Dr Gregory Ioannidis, Samaras’ agent, furious that his client’s performance was described as disgraceful.

Ioannidis turned to twitter to defend the striker claiming that Samaras won every aerial battle and went on to pin the blame for the Ibrox defeat on Samaras’ defensive team mates.

I am sick and tired of idiots singling out Sammy for the failures of the club,” the agent warned. “Caution must be applied now or legal consequences will follow.

“To single out a striker when your defence leaked four goals is to say the least amusing. Football is a team sport, you do not blame individuals.

“When you score 2 goals at Ibrox and still lose the game, there is obviously a problem with your defence and midfield, not the strikers

“I expect Celtic to condemn the unfair criticism against Sammy. They had eleven players and I recall one winning all aerial battles.”

Turning his anger to McGarvey Ioannidis: “Seems Mr McGarvey was watching a different game. I am sure the game has changed since he played for Celtic. Was he told to say these things?”

“When a public person uses the term ‘disgraceful’, he must be able to defend and justify its necessity.

I welcome all civil comments from Celtic fans.Just despise unjustified public statements from well known people which I find unecessary.”

how can you be sued for telling the truth

  • Willie Aitkenhead says:

If Samaras was on a paye bonus for Goals & shots on target, even assists….He’d owe us mega bucks.

Talk about being in your comfort zone….get him out training / playing with the development squad…make him WORK for his money. Badly in need of a reality check, I could score more goals than him in fact my wife would !!!

  • tony says:

well hes scored the same amount of goals as my wife this season. 00000000000000000000000000

  • Mark Fulton says:

McGarvey didn’t say his performance vs Rangers was disgraceful, he said his goals to games ratio is.His goals to games ratio is disgraceful.

Like Frank says, it wouldn’t be good enough for a midfielder, never mind a striker.

  • Kraljski says:

What I’d like to know is how Samaras, Stokes and even last night with Bangura ALWAYS seem to find themselves on the wing? Is this tactical?

Samaras doesn’t get chances or score many goals as he’s always out of the box – IF this was the player himself I’m sure we’d have seen him dropped but for obvious reasons with his game time I think this is being asked for by Lennon.

IF that is the case, its Lenny that should carry the can, not Samaras or Stokes.

    • Mojiebhoy says:

Stokes scored 20 goals last year. I have no problem with strikers moving to the wing to confuse and drag the defence out of position, but Samaras stays there all game nearly. He never comes back and it is always the left wing, Stokes is all the place.

  • Blah says:

If Samaras was a plate smasher in a Greek restaurant he would miss the floor.

  • Jack says:

Samaras whatever you want to say about him is not important.

Facts are he is on most peoples lips as one of the main reasons we got beat by Rangers.

When is was the defence, Samaras is not at fault for Wilson and Loovens doing terrible, a goalkeeper who is unsteady and fullbacks who get bullied

    • bhoylondon67 says:

I think most fans don’t even bother to blame Samaras for poor performances anymore, it’s well past that, it’s a guarantee he will play badly, Lennon took the flak for picking him and rightly so.

  • Rhamsteiner says:

Sammy is awful. The agent should take the field because between him, Lennon and Sammy he perhaps in the best position to help Celtic win the league.

Regardless of tactics (which are woeful) regardless of the Celtic defence (which is atrocious) Sammy doesn’t try very hard – why should he ?

He was handed three million for a one game performance when he should have been out the door long before that – based on the previous 40 performances (how many times did we watch him, face in hands staring unbelievingly at the fact that yet another sitter had come to pass.

Remember the amount of penalties he has missed.

He refused to go on loan and was subsequently rewarded by starting every game. The fact that Neil now bows to fan pressure and leaves him out is craven and despicable on Neils part.

AT THE END OF THE DAY THE TEAM IS HORRIBLE – SAMMY HAS HELPED MAKE IT THAT WAY BUT SO HAVE NEIL, THOMMO and JOHANN. So has that tit Broon, Majstronovic and that massive lump of nothing between the pipes that we paid a great deal for.

We are beyond the point of “lets get a defender” or “change the manager” the team has become less than ordinary and the thing that hurts is that most of them really don’t try that hard.

This will be a long, hard few seasons coming up – I will only take a small amount of solace in the fact that that Greek tragedy f#cks off asap.

BTW – that out on the wing thing – thats where slow, less skillful players find themselves when they dont have the speed, the guile or the confidence to go through the middle.

I’m far from Sammy’s biggest fan and couldn’t believe he was awarded a new contract. That said, I feel slightly sorry for him in that he doesn’t get any game time against the so-called diddy teams yet is expected to turn it on versus Atletico Madrid and Rangers.

What I can’t get my head around is Lenny’s reliance on him. By all accounts, bids were accepted for him during the transfer window but Sammy refused to go without a pay-off. I assume (maybe wrongly) that Lenny was asked if these bids were acceptble and if he was happy for Sammy to go and that he was. So, why turn to a striker you would have let go for the biggest games and break up the Hooper-Stokes parnership. I know Stokes had been injured but I’m sure most would agree.

Similarly, if Bangura is to be a 4th choice striker, why spend over 2m quid when our defence still reeks? He may not know the squad or tactics well (no-one seemed to on Sunday) but he must be match fit having played in the Swedish league all summer.

Samaras’s contract and subsequent performances is a big black cloud hovering over Lenny’s head.

  • Jamie says:

How come last season ” we where all Neil Lennon” when he was getting pelters from the whole country, but this season we are not all Georgios Samaras when he is on the receiving end of outragous criticism. If fans dont like him as a player then his only crime is not being good enough that is not his fault for being chosen.
FOR GOD SAKE GET BEHIND THE GUY AND THE TEAM!!!!

  • Jamie says:

    Jebus,
Maybe it is you who should just f*** off, a shocking way to talk about a Celtic player.
Hunnish behaviour of the highest order.

  • jebus says:

samaras should just **** off, yes the defence were rotten but at least some of them have contributed over the past year whilst the big greek tradgedy has had one FREAK performance. waste of space doesnt do him justice!!

  • Michael says:

The whole team are a bunch of bottlers and losers and disappear when the going gets tough. Who cares about beating Dundee Utd 5-1 or Motherwell 4-0, when we’re going to let ourselves be bullied by the likes of Jelavic, Naismith etc anyway?

They bottled it at Caley Thistle last season and with that defeat went the chance for this current crop of players to win the league.

  • Steven1888 says:

“”Football is a team sport, you do not blame individuals.””

“”obviously a problem with your defence and midfield, not the strikers””

Come on now Mr Agent, which of the two is it ?

If the agent believes that he’s such a great player, he should have no trouble moving him on in January.

It’s obvious that Samaras & Celtic do not work together. Let him get on with his career somewhere else.

  • Joe says:

What a surprise it is when an agent talks drivell.

Samaras should have been moved on in the summer but obviously he sees celtic as easy money. It is true that he was not the cause of the defat to one of the worst rangers teams this century, but while others were poor, okay, awful, he was poor too.

His contribution to games is that of a luxury player who has no stake in the outcome of the game.

Sammy has had his chances and it’s time to move him along. He has skills galore, but lacks passion, grit, consistency, team play, vision and dedication to the cause.

If you get ten minutes from Sammy in a game you have done well. We need guys who go out to play for 100 minutes, not 10. Now try to sue me too!!!!!

  • Jamie says:

    Joe,

All of your points could be attached to any of the players, but how come only one guy gets the stick? I dont disagree with you but think it is unacceptable the way he has been left out to dry and carry the full can for all the teams ills

  • Popes11 says:

EIGHT goals in forty eight appearances!!! FFS man.I’m fed up reading all this s*ite “lets get behind our Sammy” and all that other nonsence. Samaras is complete and utter tosh and he should not now or ever have been playing for Celtic. But, in saying that we have other players who should never have been allowed to pull on the famous hoops, Majstorovic and Loovens quickly spring to mind.

  • tony says:

Is it because when samaras is on the full 90mins the team seams to drop a gear. Good players dont want to pass to him knowing he will lose it or fall over it.

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

    Sorry but….Does Sammi pick himself…??
No he doesn’t….He gets sent out and we all know he’s gash……
So Lenny…it’s time to explain….’cos you’re the only one who seems to rate him….apart from his Agent of course.

  • billybhoy says:

i hope his agent is reading this, your client isnt good enough to sell match programmes on london road never mind wear the hoops but i hear theres a vacancy in the wee kebab shop on springfield road

samaras is up there with the worst of the worst ever to shame the hoops and the sooner he’s hunted the better
