Scott Brown will visit a London specialist to examine his troublesome ankle injury.
The Celtic skipper has had ankle surgery in each of the last two seasons but the latest injury is believed to be a fresh problem.
Brown hasn’t played since being substituted during the 4-2 defeat from Rangers at Ibrox and has no chance of being fit to face Hearts on Sunday.
Providing an update on the injury Neil Lennon said: “I don’t think it will require surgery but it might just be that it will take a bit longer than we first thought.
“It is a totally different injury from the one he had previously, but it might have been detrimental that he was playing without being fully recovered. He will see a specialist in the next few days and we will know the prognosis after that.
“We’re hoping it’s not as severe as a few months, but it might be a bit longer than a couple of weeks.”
