SFA chief condemns the Daily Record

Stewart Regan has condemned the Daily Record’s backpage spread which asks: ‘Who’s more hated at Ibrox? Is it Lennon or the taxman?’

Supporters from both clubs have been quick to criticise the item ahead of tomorrow’s first derby match of the season.

Publicity seeker Alex Salmond called a Holyrood summit after one bad tempered clash last season with both clubs and the SFA vowing to root out the troblemakers and attempt to make the fixture less problematic.

While there will inevitably be over the top reactions to the coverage in Scotland’s second best selling daily paper the SFA and football authorities are desperate for tomorrow’s fixture to pass off without any major incidents inside or outside the ground.

Using his twitter account the SFA Chief Executive said: “It would be helpful if newspaper headlines focused on the football rather than referring to ‘hatred’ ahead of the first Old Firm match.”

Celtic are also believed to be very angry about the situation and considering sanctions against the Daily Record.
