Euro 2012 newsBiram Kayal remains an injury worry for Celtic’s trip to Kilmarnock after missing out on Israel’s 2-0 win away to Malta.

The midfielder missed Celtic’s 2-0 defeat at Hearts due to a thigh strain but declared himself fit for international duty.

That decision surprised some supporters but after missing last night’s match there must be a genuine concern over whether the vice-captain will be available to face Kilmarnock.

Israel’s win over Malta lifted them into third place with Greece winning the group ahead of Croatia. Georgios Samaras was missing from the Greek side that won 2-1 in Georgia to clinch qualification.

One of the best results of the night was Wales’ 1-0 win away to Bulgaria with Adam Matthews appearing as a first half substitute for Darcy Blake as Gary Speed’s young side finished the campaign in style just three points behind Montenegro who clinched a play-off spot behind England.

Sweden qualified as best placed runners-up following a 3-2 win over group winners Holland. Daniel Majstorovic played the full 90 minutes up against Robin van Persie andd Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.

In a great day for Irish football Paul George scored in the u-19’s 3-1 win over Russia with Richie Towell playing in the 4-1 u-21 win away to Liechentenstein.

James Forrest was a late substitute for Scotland in their 3-1 defeat to an understrength Spanish team in Alicante.

When you look at the injuries our players have picked up this season…we should be getting sponsored by BUPA….

Precisely. It’s becoming a farce now. Fair enough if it was the odd couple of players but ffs our injury crisis this season has seen us go into games with nearly half a team or more, in the treatment room. That’s when you have to raise questions about the fitness and training of these players. Some of it can’t be helped of course, like Izzy, but injuries are evidently crippling this team this season.

Forget the injuries if our huge squad was good enough it wouldn’t matter, we’re playing in the worst league in europe its the crap penny pinching signing policy thats to blame

I agree entirely. We have lots of players in the team, but alot of them are not good enough, not winners and there is no point in trying to keep them happy by giving them cameos. We should allow them to leave and work harder with the core squad.

I wonder how it would transmit to the players if they weren’t treated so preciously because ‘we can always move Charlie Mulgrew to fill whatever position you play and draught some dud into the position he excels in’.

Lennon must know if the squad size is damaging the team mentality, but I can see why others would want him to develop saleable assets

Big Dan plays 90 minutes for Sweden in a victory over the Dutch. I wonder if the Swedes use “half-zonal marking”? My guess would be no.

    Samaras was out on cards.
