Neil Lennon has taken five of Celtic’s Next Gen Series squad to Rennes for tomorrow’s Europa League clash.
Paul George, Callum McGregor, Marcus Fraser, Joe Chalmes and Patrik Twardzik were in the squad that flew out to France today less than 48 hours after beating Manchester City 4-2.
George and McGeough have been with the first team squad in recent weeks but it’s the first ever call up for McGregor and Twardzik, brother of Filip, while Fraser and Chalmers played in last season’s friendly against Atletici Bilbao.
Fraser and Chalmers probably have the best chance of featuring at some stage with Fraser capable of playing at right back but more at home in central defence. Left back Chalmers could be in contention for a place with Badr El Kaddouri cup tied after playing for Dinamo Kiev.
With Gary Hooper and Georgios Samaras left behind George could be given a run at some point after making a brief appearance in the League Cup tie against Ross County.

I agree GreenJedi
Heard alot of good things about George, Fraser etc.
I’d prefer those bhoys (and their pals) to get a game ahead of Samaras, Hooper, Commons, Majstorovic and the other duds over the next few months.
Couldn’t agree more m8, the younger guys seem to be doing well whereas some of the 1st team players are not earning their place.
Ultimately, there’s not much expectation for the European games so let the youngsters go out and show what they are made of.
Would be delighted to see some of these young bhoys get a run out, regardless of how good they are we know they will give us something the current first team have been lacking, and that’s fight passion and a real desire to play for the Celtic cause. Mon the Hoops!
Would have liked to have seen Tony Watt play seems a great wee player also.
Put the lot in can’t do any worse.
Everybody loves to hear nice gestures like this but lets get real.
You don’t play inexperienced players in games like this unless you figure that you are not going to win anyway and you want to give the opportunity to younger kids and suck up to the supporters.
Another like ploy by Lennon. This is s big game, we need experience on the field.
