Europa League Celtic newsUEFA President Michel Platini spent two hours in a Swiss court being grilled about Sion being kicked out of the Europa League.

Sion chief Christian Constantin had previously demanded that Platini gets jailed for expelling his club but the UEFA President seemed relaxed afterwards after his court appearance in the Swiss canton of Vaud where UEFA General Secretary Gianni Infantino appeared.

The president is really happy to have answered questions from the prosecutor as a witness,” UEFA spokesman Alexandre Fourtoy explained.

“We will not further comment so that justice can gather all the information and draw its conclusion.”

UEFA are being fined 1,000 Swiss francs per day by the Swiss court for expelling Sion but the regulations for Europa League participation clearly state that local courts can not be used for football matters.

UEFA’s stance is that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is the only body that all clubs and associations have access to.

Sion dispute that view and claim that their local court is the relevant authority for the matter.

UEFA have conceded that they will reinstate Sion into a five team Europa League group if CAS find in favour of the Swiss club but the governing body must be seen to be approaching the matter without any prejudice.

Tomorrow night Celtic continue their Group I campaign away to Rennes.
