Charlie Mulgrew Celtic newsCeltic could be without NINE first team players for tomorrow’s League Cup tie with Hibs including skipper Charlie Mulgrew.

Neil Lennon described his stand-in skipper as ‘pretty doubtful’ due to an ankle injury as he faced up to the first of a double header against the Edinburgh club.

Glenn Loovens and Mohamed Bangura will definitely miss out with Kris Commons and Georgios Samaras also missing out on the trip to the capital.

Emilio Izaguirre, Scott Brown and Kelvin Wilson are already on the long term injury list with doubts hanging over the fitness of Mulgrew and Mark Wilson for tomorrow’s match.

Defence is the biggest concern for Neil Lennon who may bring in Thomas Rogne for his first appearance of the season.

Giving an update from the treatment room the Celtic boss said: “We are hoping Glenn Loovens will be a week to 10 days and Charlie Mulgrew is pretty doubtful as well with an ankle problem.

“Bangura is going to see a specialist tomorrow and after that he we will know whether or not he requires surgery on his knee problem.

“Samaras is still struggling with bone bruising on his ankle and Kris (Commons) has a calf strain.

“Thomas Rogne played an hour yesterday in a bounce game against Rangers and is definitely in contention and Victor Wanyama can play at the back.

“Majstorovic is fit and Mark Wilson has played centre-back before so we have decent cover at the back. Again we will have to make changes but we have good players who can adapt.”

“Eventually Mark might need surgery on one of his knees. It is a question of keeping him ticking over at the minute.

“He gets a bit sore after training some days and we have to be mindful of that. But if we can get as much out of him as we did last year then we will be absolutely thrilled.

“Rogne played a couple of Under-21 games for Norway during the international break. He hasn’t had much football but the hour against Rangers yesterday would have done him the world of good.

“We will pick the strongest team we can. It’s a cup competition that we would like to win it.”
