Fan sites take the lead as new media pioneers

|

internet Celtic newsCeltic fans are amongst the best served supporters online with a range of different supporter sites using online techniques that leaves old media trailing in it’s wake.

The gallant  volunteers at Celtic Underground have had a host of big names on their regular podcast including Brian Dempsey, George Galloway and Paul McBride with the Underground bhoys rapidly heading towards their 200th broadcast.

Rumour has it that the CU podcast is actually the lovechild of the etims rumour mill which was once the highlight of the week for the online Celtic support..

The Lost Bhoys have been providing great audio entertainment for two years with their interview with Anton Rogan likely to go down as a broadcasting classic! Beyond the Waves are providing a complimentary broadcast to the Lost Bhoys giving a real international flavour to the online Celtic support.

Over and Over provide a live radio show that mixes some favoured tunes with brilliantly partisan comments on a Friday night to preview the weekend ahead unless we’re forced into international duty.

The long established Celtic Quick News site has taken some great leaps this season evolving way beyond it’s traditional message board look.

The CQN magazine provides a great range of topics but as newspapers and magazines attempt to evolve into viable websites I can’t quite understand why a website wishes to evolve towards a magazine format. Complimenting the CQN magazine has been CQN TV which has attracted some very eye catching presenters to ask fans a range of topical questions on match days.

Football Fancast, the ‘parents’ of Video Celts are just as active with a number of video based features on their main site.

The simplicity of production and ease of access to video makes almost anything possible with home made video having as much appeal as the slicker productions that are giving off the radar opinions currency online.

The Celtic View is the oldest football club publication for a reason. Celtic could not trust the newspapermen to report news about the club in an accurate and fair way.

Other clubs followed, as has always been the way with Celtic, but the point was lost.

50 years (or so) later nothing has changed. But new media has changed the way we report the news about our club.

Celtic Supporters lead the way because we have to. I personally do not buy any newspaper. I don’t need to, because of the wonderful network of sites you mentioned in your article.

Well done, everyone involved, and thanks.

Agree with your CQN magazine point, but you’ll likely get a lot of CQN diehard keyboard warriors on here slaughtering you now lol. CQN seems to be a bit of a cult, who is this Paul67?

Not that I don’t love the CQN website, it’s great!

  • Stevie says:

Yes I believe us Celtic fans do have plenty of fantastic websites to gather news, no wonder the despicable Scottish newspaper industry in going down the toilet probably were they belong anyway.
More power to the online Celtic Bhoys.
    HH.

Only problem with electronic media- and Video Celts is the worst in this case- is pop up ads- does my nut in!

C’mon Joe, do something about it- quite often I will think about clicking the link to your site but I don’t bother- solely because of the ads.

BTW, Patman, Paul67 is a great bloke.

    Hail hail!

You don’t click on the link to the site because you’re annoyed by ads?… You do know you can click ‘x’ outa those ads ma bhoy? Only joshin mate… but seriously though, relax!

When you look at the quality of production on all Celtic orientated sites compared to the manky mob, it’s clear to see what half of the divide was graced with brain cells!

      Hail Hail!
