Paul McBride QC Celtic newsLeading QC Paul McBride has quit the Scottish Tory party following Ruth Davidson’s appointment as party leader and the parties decision to vote against Alex Salmond’s Offensive Behaviour Bill.

McBride came to prominence earlier this year as he represented Neil Lennon against the George Peat inspired move by the SFA to drive Lennon out of Scottish football.

The QC brought the SFA to their knees as he poured through their archaic rule book which led to a complete overhaul of the disciplinary system and ended the committee structure widely regarded as an old boys bowling club network.

McBride has been one of the leading younger lights in the Tory party but following the election of Davidson it seems like the party are about to splinter as they face upto an independence election with McBride delivering a damning verdict in his resignation letter which almost compared his old party with the SFA!

It had nothing to do with Ruth winning.” McBride claimed. “I resigned over their performance on criminal justice, in particular their approach to the Offensive Behaviour Bill.

“They are the most moronic, dysfunctional, introspective bunch of MSPs I’ve ever seen.

“They have no interest in the people of Scotland. Their only interest is their careers. I’m joining the 87 per cent of the population who don’t agree with a word they say.”

McBride became a cult figure amongst the Celtic support as he showed the SFA up as an out-dated organisation whose articles of association were unlawful.

His backing for Salmond’s Offensive Behaviour Bill, which has been admitted in Holyrood as an attempt to even up the number of Celtic supporters being criminalised, has saw his stock plummet amongst Celtic fans with the wishy washy ‘legislation’ refusing to define what is and what isn’t offensive.

McBride, who quit Labour in 2009 to join the Tories added: “The bill prevents offensive behaviour against people who are gay, disabled or belong to a certain group or religion. It also prevents people glorifying terrorism.

“The Tories oppose criminalising people who wish to indulge in that kind of behaviour.

“All they have done is replace one very nice woman, under whom the party declined, with another woman, who probably isn’t as nice, is going to get less votes and is supported by only two out of her 15 MSP colleagues.”

He said: “That twit (Tory Justice spokesman John Lamont)has opposed every single initiative Kenny MacAskill has come out with and hasn’t offered one positive suggestion to deal with crime.”

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

Naw….ah better no say whit ah wiz gonny say….
But….Tory ??…..ach well ..each tae their own .

  • Joe says:

Paul McBride is a class act who is a real genuine person trying to do the right thing. He is saying what we have all known to be true for years. Scotland is corrupt.

It is led by corrupt politicians who as McBrde puts it, are only interested in their own careers, and because of the “estabishment” of old boys network still evident in Scotand today, they still all look after each other.

The rolled up pants and goats team want to keep Scotland in the dark ages. I hate to say it but these retards running the country are no different than the Gadafis, Husseins and binLadens of this world. Of course the monarchy down the M1 don’t help.

    • OldRossCo says:

I agree. He is affecting change where he sees injustice which is more than most have the courage to do. He doesn’t have to have the same ideas as me about everything for me to appreciate his contribution. The bill cannot be as vague though, because it leaves it wide open to police abuse (the same who do not charge Those breaking current laws…..)

  • paranoidandroid says:

I suppose it’s a step in the right direction- but there’s just no excuse for anybody called Mcbride being a tory.

  • Stephen says:

what right does paul mcbride have to tell celtic fans what songs they can sing?
The one’s that go week in week out home and away can decide for themselves.

  • Mac says:

Tories and Labour up here = “Two cheeks on the same arse” They just oppose everything and anything the SNP do, for political gain.

All they care about is keeping Britannia together and obeying their Anglo Saxon masters.

I have far more respect for McBride now he’s left the blue half of the Westminister Northern Branch.

  • Joe McHugh says:

    Hi Mac

I have total contempt for all shades of political opportunists whatever their ticket or rosette colour.

Could you explain the benefits of Salmond’s Offensive Behaviour Bill and how comfortable are you backing a party that has Kenny MacAskill in high office after his comments that the behaviour of the supporters at the League Cup Final was worthy of praise?

  • It’s the only way he got up the ladder, now there he is shaking off the masters apron.

Labour, Tory,I’m guessing now with SNP.

A populist if I ever seen one. Can’t be part of the establishment and slag it off at the same time when it suits you.

He was the first to take on the football authorities, although it wouldn’t have taken a QC to figure out the were bigots and biased. Every man and his dog on our side of the fence have known for a century+ but good on him for taking the stand.
