The reputation of Scottish football plummeted further tonight with the abandonment of the Motherwell- Hibs SPL clash.
A fire close to the generator used to power the floodlights led to the match being called off at half-time with Hibs leading 1-0.
Tonight’s match was the second Friday night experiement with the SPL hoping that the new slot will prove attractive to fans, sponsors and television companies.
The very public abandonment of the match again highlights Scotland at it’s worse. Is there any other country where the third placed team are unable to provide secure generators for floodlighting?
With Hearts players going unpaid and Dunfermline closing a stand to save £20,000 over six months the SPL will have their work cut out to find a new sponsor to replace the Clydesdale Bank.
Tomorrow’s Motherwell-Celtic u-19 match was postponed earlier in the week due to problems at Hannah Park, home of Shotts Bon Accord, where the game was scheduled to be played.
Only Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Hibs provide their own pitches for u-19 matches with the remaining clubs using public parks such as Aberdeen, Dundee United and St Johnstone or junior grounds favoured by Motherwell, St Mirren and Kilmarnock.
