Scott Brown v El Hadji DioufNeil Lennon has revealed that some verbals from Hearts players were behind the after match flare up between Jamie Hamill and Scott Brown.

Fraser Forster’s late penalty save from Eggert Jonsson secured all three points for Celtic with Hamill reacting angrily to Brown at the final whistle.

Brown had approached the Hearts player at the end of the match to shake his hand but that was rejected by the former Kilmarnock defender.

Moments before the penalty after Celtic had put the ball out of play to allow an injured player to receive treatment the cash-strapped Edinburgh side responded by taking long throw-in deep into the Celtic penalty box.

“There’s not a lot to write about there, a bit of verbal sparring,” Lennon explained about the Hamill incident. “I didn’t see it but I do know that things were said to Scott as the penalty was awarded and I think he was giving a little bit of verbal back, nothing more than that.

“I thought he drove the team on in the second half it is perfect timing to have him back.”

It looked like Victor Wanyama’s goal was going to count for little when referee Calum Murray pointed to the penalty spot with just three minutes left to play.

What happened in the penalty box was unclear with Lennon surprised when the referee pointed to the penalty spot.

I am disappointed with the decision and disappointed by the way we dealt with the corner,” the hoops boss added.

“I’ve seen it and I assume he’s given it for handball. But if you actually see where the ball goes, it is impossible for Victor to play the ball in that direction with his hand.

“I don’t know how much of a good view Calum got of it. I can understand a little bit why the decision was given because Victor has used his arms for leverage but for me, he has not contacted the ball, it came off (Ryan) Stevenson’s head.”

If the referees had any dignity or integrity they would go on strike after being abused by Fat Sally and Butcher.

  • Gerry D says:

Bougherra had much more contact on Calum Murray that than Hardie on Aluko, imagine the ref had taken a dive!
What would Sally & dignity have said about that!

Was right next to the brown incident, Scott booted the ball at FT then went to shake hamill’s hand, beaming, and then started to shake his hand up and down really hard – comedy gold!

The penalty incident was a 50/50, which in scottish football terms means its a stick on if its a celtic player and not a chance if a rangers player.

    Agreed big man.

If a team is time wasting then finds themselves behind in a match they shouldn’t then benefit from their own time wasting.
