Celtic’s u-19 squad have accepted an invite to the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup in Stuttgart next month.
Franz Beckenbauer and current German national coach Joachim Lowe will be in attendance at the eight team event which will give the Celtic u-19’s some competitive action during their winter break.
John Kennedy’s side have been drawn alongside Lazio, Hamburg and Frieburg in Group B with Group A consisting of Vfb Stuttgart, USA national side, Mainz 05 and Legia Gdansk.
The professional element of the tournament will be staged at the Glaspalast (Glass Palace) Sindelfingen which is 15km from Stuttgart. All games in the tournament will be screened live on the official website with Celtic first in action against Lazio, Friday with a 3.05 kick off followed by Saturday matches with Hamburg 5.08 and Frieburg 6.18.
Celtic were scheduled to face St Mirren at McKenna Park Govan tomorrow but that game has fallen victim to the weather.
Kennedy’s side have played just one away match since the middle of September with clubs unable to provide a pitch capable of standing up to the Scottish winter.
Following the Mercedes-Benz Cup Celtic’s next fixture is at home to Hibs on February 4.

“Kennedy’s side have played just one away match since the middle of September with clubs unable to provide a pitch capable of standing up to the Scottish winter”.
look at the tens of millions that has been squandered in scottish football over the last 15years. Absolute disgrace that there’s no facilities and pitches.
terrific news, Joe
another VideoCelts exclusive
brilliant !!
I can’t really claim any credit for this Tony, I got sent the details from one of my readers, apparently the draw was made last month for the competition.
Passed through 2,000,0000 visitors for the year over the weekend- that’s the equivalent of Celtic Park filled 33 times!
Great to be providing service and information to supporters worldwide
hh
Despite “negative ” goings on and bad publicity for the Club… we are, once again, invited to participate in a prestigious competition.
Hope the Weans perform well….
and well done Joe on your “visitor ” total…
very impressive.
Keep up the good work….
MON THE WEANS.
This is a great site Joe, you provide information on the youths that celtic have always been unwilling or unable to provide, for example how hard is it to announce at the end of the season the players being released?
Wait till the Club finally gets a reserve team up and running again (fingers crossed – I haven’t actually heard anything!) You will be so busy on this site that you will have to start hiring staff
😉
Keep up the good work!
