John Kennedy Celtic newsCeltic hit the goal trial to demolish Dunfermline 5-0 to book a trip to Aberdeen in the last eight of the SFA Youth Cup.

Jackson Irvine, Patrik Twardzik, Bahrudin Atajic, Joe Chalmers and Tony Watt all found the net as John Kennedy’s side continued their defence of the trophy.

The scoreline was harsh on Dunfermline who had no answer to Celtic’s precision finishing with three special long range goals within 15 minutes of the second half restarting putting the Fifers out on the competition.

For 44 minutes there was little between the sides with the Celtic goal enjoying a lucky escape in the 25th minute when the visitors hit the crossbar then managed to send the rebound wide of the post.

Celtic had been unable to impose their preferred passing style on the game and were forced into a change in the 35th minute when Atajic replaced the injured Darnell Fisher.

In the final minute of the first half Callum McGregor forced a good save out of the Dunfermline keeper following an exchange of passes on the edge of the penalty box but from the corner Celtic opened the scoring.

Tony Watt had a fresh air attempt at Dylan McGeough’s corner but the ball broke to Irvine who drilled home a low shot for his third goal of the competition.

Football Fancast newsWhatever Kennedy said at the interval it worked a treat as Celtic turned on the style after the break scoring three spectacular goals in quick succession.

Watt had already struck the post with a low shot when Twardzik fired home a low 20 yard left footed effort after breaking from midfield.

Not to be outdone Atajic was next to find the net with a great reverse shot from 20 yards out that left the visiting keeper flat footed after 56 minutes

Three minutes later Chalmers smacked in his own goal on the season contender with a sweet left foot drive from 30 yards that the Dunfermline keeper never got near

With two more matches coming up in the next six days Curtis Jones was brought on to replace Jackson Irvine with Lewis Kidd given the final 20 minutes in place of McGeough.

Watt completed the scoring with a more bread and butter shot from 15yards out after 75 minutes with the only downside being late knocks to Marcus Fraser and Watt that saw Celtic finish the match with nine men.

Hopefully both players will be fit for Sunday’s derby match with Rangers at Murray Park, kick-off 1pm.
