Kelvin Wilson Celtic newsKelvin Wilson is waiting on the call to face Udinese tonight.

The former Nottingham Forest defender was one of Neil Lennon’s first transfer targets although the hoops boss had to wait 12 months to sign his former City Ground team-mate.

Wilson hasn’t made a first team appearance since the League Cup tie at Ross County in September but after coming through a bounce game against Hibs last week and being on the bench against Hearts he’s hoping to see some action in Italy tonight.

“The injury is fine although I’ve not played any games for two and a half months,” he told Celtic tv. “I’ve trained hard and played in a friendly against Hibs last week- if called upon I think that I’m ready

“There were a lot of games at the start of the season and I played in all of them- maybe after five or six months of not playing it (an injury) was on the cards

“I’m back in the squad and hopefully in the team, there are some great games coming up with the main one on the 28th. Things are so tight in Europe and in the league that every game is important.

“We have to beat Udinese, it’s a big challenge but we’re looking forward to it.”

Great to see him back, but I think it would be asking way too much to throw him straight back into this game.
We are sure to be on the back foot for most of the match and really need to clamp down on the midfield to try and control the pace of the game.

They are an excellent team and will pose us loads of problems….hopefully we can create a couple of chances ourselves but expecting nothing from this game.

As long as we don’t shoot ourselves in the foot again with sheer stupidity try to make it through the first 20 mins without mishap.

Maybe we will see if we are learning anything from previous trips abroad and how to keep possession at pace or under pressure.
