Thompson was signed by Tony Mowbray from Stockport in August 2009 and made 16 starts scoring three times under Mowbray and Neil Lennon.

Last season he was out on loan to Rochdale but only made 12 appearances.

Chesterfield are currently sitting at the bottom of League One and are managed by former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder John Sheridan.

Spurs found themselves 4-1 up at the interval with the Celtic goal coming from Lewis Toshney who was the only player ineligible for the current u-19 side.
