transfer window Celtic newsSunderland fans are still waiting for Martin O’Neill’s first signing since taking over from Steve Bruce.

The arrival of the new manager has turned around the fortunes of the club with O’Neill expected to bring a glut of transfer activity.

During the summer Steve Bruce brought in eight new faces ranging from £8m Connor Wickham to the £350,000 spent on James McClean from Derry City.

With a week to go the new man in charge at the Stadium of Light has still to make his first move which won’t come as any surprise to Celtic fans who became resigned to transfer activity squeezed into the last 48 hours of the window.

O’Neill’s approach doesn’t seem to have changed as he goes about the job his way with a little hint to keep the Sunderland owner on his toes.

“I have had a conversation with the owner,” the Sunderland boss told the Sunday Sun.

“I met him before the Chelsea game on a brief visit and I have spoken to him on the phone since the Chelsea defeat.

“I will also see him again this week, and I’ll find out what his views are and I’ll let him know mine.

“Obviously, there’s only nine days of the transfer window left so, if we’re going to have a talk about the situation, it needs to be sooner rather than later.

I think a bit of dialogue with the owner never goes amiss. He was still (despite the defeat at Chelsea) very, very buoyant. And he’s in good spirits.”
