Paolo di Canio Celtic newsPaolo di Canio is on the brink of achieving promotion for Swindon at the end of a turbulent first season managing in English football.

The appointment of the former Celt at the lowest rung in English football was greeted with amazement with some predictions that his spell in charge would be measured in days rather than months.

Tuesday’s win at Barnet keeps Swindon on course for promotion to League One with di Canio confident of success in his debut season.

“It’s not mathematically definite but if we can get seven points in the next three games, I believe we can celebrate promotion at home with our fans,” the Italian claimed.

“I think maybe we need 86 or 87 points just to be sure. We have hard games to play but so does everybody else, we’re all in this position and anything is possible.”

“We have the same amount of games left as Crawley and Shrewsbury and we’re eight points clear of them, perhaps it’s like nine points with our superior goal difference.”

Swindon are currently at the top of League Two, eight points ahead of Shrewsbury who are in a play-off spot with seven matches left to play.
