Walter Smith Celtic newsWalter Smith fears that a transfer ban would relegate Rangers next season.

The man who spent a fortune on Kyle Lafferty, Lee McCullouch, Madjid Bougherra, Steven Naysmith, Steven Whittaker, Steve Davis, Maurice Edu, Nikica Jelavic, Neil Alexander, James Beattie and Kenny Miller to help win three championships in a row believes that a 12 run transfer ban could sink his old club.

Despite owing money to clubs in Scotland, England, Sweden, Italy and France from Ally McCoist’s summer spending spree Smith believes that the transfer ban is a step too far from the SFA.

I don’t personally know who was on that panel but I think it should be footballing people,” the former Ibrox boss claimed. “In many ways, they have maybe underestimated the problems Rangers have at the present moment.

“They have gone into administration and they have had to make arrangements with players who, at the end of the season, can walk away.

“In the circumstances they are in, the majority of them might take that option.

“With no way to replace them, it means that Rangers could effectively be playing a team that is full of under-18 players. In that situation, relegation would face the club.

“Despite all the joy that a lot of people might be taking at the situation that Rangers are in, no-one – especially in the SPL – wants to see Rangers leave with the support they carry and the amount of money they bring to the league itself.

“The sanctions they have given would, in my mind, put them in danger of relegation and every club in the league would suffer then.”

facebook CelticThe SPL will meet next week to vote on proposals to allow a newco Rangers direct entry into the top flight should the existing club go into liquidation.

Smith was involved in the launch of the Rangers Fans Fighting Fund which has already raised £400,000 for the club.

It beggars belief that people like his royal cardigan can step up and put forward that we can not do without them. Not an apology, not a sorry we were in the wrong – the spin is now that the people who had the temerity to penalise them and who are now having to take instruction from the police to safeguard themselves are in the wrong – only in Scotland!!!!!!!

What is wrong with a rule that a club is not allowed to buy new players until they have paid for the players they have already signed? That makes perfect sense to me!

  • Willie says:

Does Watty Myth want all the other clubs to donate money / players to the club who have cheated for decades, stolen players / money under false promises.

They won’t need to worry about facing relegation through the efforts of those who remain….they SHOULD be booted down the leagues when it is shown beyond doubt they had over dual contracts for players over at least 12 years…..more than 400 cases of simple cheating.

I’d be keeping a very low profile and accept complete responsiblity but then that would be a dignified approach which is lost on such people.

Walter Smith KNEW all about the dual contracts, the problems heading their way via HMRC / Bank but decided to blow other people’s money on more transfer fee’s to stay ahead.

Ye reap what ye sow and you deserve a very barren decade or 2.

  • Ah just when it all seams lost out comes the myth with aload of shite. This auld fool should have been put down years ago, what would happen if rangers had a shocking season and where relegated would the sp hell have to change everything to keep them in.

Give me piece ya auld mug the great days of spending other people’s money are over time to pay the piper maybe when you were spending the millions on the way to your tainted 9 in a row you should have asked how are going to pay it back but like the rest of the knuckle draggers you had your head firmly in the sand.

Pay what you owe and it all goes away. Hail hail

  • Neil says:

please just pause for a moment!

Walter the Myth has just spoken….

Walter what about your EBT…you knew all along aout the cheating!

Why not get the fat one to apologise for his actions over the last couple of day, trying to get members of the public assasinated for doing their job.

How dare you, 45 years it has taken you to try and match our big trophy and look were it has got you.

Better luck in the turd division, if they will have you.

  • Greenjedi says:

Smith is as just as much to blame as Murray and Whyte. He knew about te EBTs and will soon be saying cheerio to his totally tainted 9 in a row!

  • Steveo says:

The comments by Mr McCoist are absolutely scandalous and to be honest the SFA & Mr Lunney (if it’s his remit) require to issue a bringing the game into dis-repute charge against Him. His comments were reckless in the extreme and virtually a blue light to the neanderthals in the gers support. Especially as a rep from Rangers was at the hearing sitting across from the ‘SFA 3? & therefore would have known who they were.

To my mind I think the punishment, if upheld, is actually quite lenient. The 12 month ban on signing players will actually give any new owners (should they actually get bought) some breathing space to sort out the finances. The 160,000 fine for numerous rule infringements pales into insignificance when you consider that almost 20 years ago Fergus McCann and Celtic were fined a record £100,000 for poaching tommy burns from Kilmarnock.

Ultimately we are extremely close to the end game for Rangers(IA) and Ally and the rest of the bears are hurting badly but no excuse for this.

Like everyone else I would be just happy if they paid their debts in full and could then get on with it but they won’t. It was, and always will be, someone else’s fault, & they’ve ran away!!

I genuinely think given the issues at this club, with mountainous debt and no-one seemingly prepared to step up to the plate, that in 2012/2013 the only Rangers in the Scottish League (SPL or SFL) will be based in Berwick. Here’s hoping!!!

  • Listen, cardigan, just donate some of your b*** pension back to those elderly you stole it from for years to pay for the fake glory of a ‘sir’. You and all your kind are the most brass-necked, hypocritical and immoral people I have ever come across. Hard to believe that one wee supposedly great little country can harbour so many malevolent individuals. As Johnny (he with the) Cash sang you “went down, down, down and the flames got higher. Burn, burn, burn the ring of fire, the ring of fire” all round Govan.

They had such confidence in their influence in this country that it spawned behaviour of a gang-hut mentality of we can do what we want or there will be repercussions to any dissenters.Thankfully there is the odd hack like graham spiers who takes them on and tells the truth of how they find themselves in their present position.THIS IS CORRUPT TOP LEVEL RANGERS PEOPLE WHO WHILE WAVING THE SCARVES AND SAYING ALL THE RIGHT THINGS,WERE ALSO RIFLING THE TILL,AND BODYSWERVING THE BILLS.DAY OF RECKONING ,EH.

  • Gerry D says:

    This is a sport!

    What should happen is this.

1 Level playing field for all
2 Same rules of game and law of land for everyone
    3 Best team wins
4 No special treatment for anyone
    5 No pre-requisite outcomes demanded

What wew are seeing here is not sport. Its not the reason we have sport.

The very essense of the game is being corrupted by rangers and for the most part Scottish society is happy to see that.

Walter Smith, Ally McCoist and Sandy Jardine and the famous ragers support are behaving in a crass, arrogant and intimidatory fashion.

A government with backbone would slap them down for the damage they have done to the game and to society, the would be publicly censured for wilfully with-holding taxes.

A free, fair and balanced press would ask Walter et al if they benefited from any tax dodging schemes.

The sports regulator would haved hauled McCoist up for incitement in questioning the impartiality of its panel and when the full scale of rangers cheating becomes public knowledge they should have their license revoked sine die.

Celtic dont need rangers, scotland doesnt need rangers. Only rangers neeed rangers.

If rangers want to continue, let them do what we all have to do.

Firstly pay their taxes in full and if that means selling everything they have so be it.

Secondly, start obeying the law of the land.

Jez here we go again… it never stops this “we are the peeeple” mentality.
Should it be the eeee aaaas in the the k*** the Pope bands ,Orange Order or like Mitty, the boys who are higher up the ladderwho are in the Masonic Order,be they Bankers, Lawyers, Royal Dukes etc.
I suppose if the bigotdome had it all their own way for 100 years, to what’s happening now it is a bitter pill to swallow.
Blame every one else but yourselves.

Bob Dylan’s words ” the times they are a changing” springs to mind.

    Keep er lite Joe !

  • mick f says:

I thought there was no relagation from the third division, haha. It shows after all their cheating & robbing of clubs from here & abroad they still think they deserve to get away with just a ten point deduction & that’s it.
Our hero Whyte is so hated by them that it is worrying about his safety. Knowing him he’s probably receiving round the clock protection by the best & most expensive people & Rankers will get the bill to add to all the others, gers fans squirming has been great entertainment.
