Gary Caldwell and Shaun Maloney were amongst the honours last night as Wigan celebrated their annual relegation escape act at their Player of the Year Awards.
Despite competition from a string of influential players captain Caldwell picked up the Player of the Year Award voted for by the clubs supporters.
The former Celtic defender missed just two games all season and was delighted with the award.
He said: “It’s a fantastic honour to pick up the award and I’d like to thank each and every fan who voted, but they’re the real winners this season.
“Everything the team and I do on the pitch is inspired by them and they deserve the celebrations we hope to see on Sunday afternoon.”
Maloney had to bide his time before getting his chance but has been instrumental in keeping Wigan in the Premiership with goals against Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle.
The goal against Manchester United was the first time that Wigan have taken a point from their noisy neighbours and was voted Performance of the Season with Maloney’s strike given the Goal of the Season Award.
Wigan complete their campaign at home to Wolves on Sunday with their safety assured following Monday’s 1-0 win away to Blackburn Rovers who were relegated by the defeat.
