Greg Spence Lewis Toshney Celtic newsGreig Spence has been informed that he won’t be offered a new contract by Celtic.

The striker who’ll be 20 in July spent the season just finished on loan at Hamilton Accies scoring five times for the First Division side.

Yesterday on twitter he announced: “Just out a meeting at Celtic park, left the club on good terms looking forward to getting sumthing sorted for next season loved my time here.

“Not everything works out, just got to keep my head down and work hard, thanks for all your support, best three years of my life.”

Spence joined Celtic in August 2009 and after taking a little time to settle was one of the driving forces behind the 09/10 souble winning season with a great scoring run of 10 in 12 matches including vital strikes in successive matches in the semi-final of the SFA Youth Cup at home to Livingstone and away to Rangers at Murray Park.

The following season was something of a nightmare after picking up a knee injury in a pre-season friendly.

Spence returned to the side as James Keatings was ruled out with a cruciate injury and scored a number of important goals including the opener in the 2011 SFA Youth Cup Final against Rangers which Celtic won 2-1.

Without doubt the adventures of Spence will be followed closely by his army of twitter fans who have come to expect the very unexpected from the tweeting striker!

I wish the young lad all the best for the future and it’s a pity things didn’t work out for him at Parkhead. I’ll be keeping an eye on his progression and perhaps one day he might do a Charlie Mulgrew and return.

Good luck to the young man, unfortunate there are a few quality strikers competing for positions.

Very disappointed to hear that Jaison McGrath has been training with Sunderland, hugely talented young player and will be very sorry to see him go…although O’Neill did us a favour with the keeper he took to Villa instead of joining us.
