Duff and Phelps Rangers newsDavid Whitehouse has claimed that there are FOUR acceptable bids on the table for Rangers with two at advanced stages.

The withdrawal of Bill Miller’s interest in the stricken club appears to have triggered an avalanche of bids with the latest offers including interest from the UK and within Scotland.

Accompanying the latest official speculation it is claimed that Craig Whyte is prepared to sell his shareholding for just £1 despite reports that the former billionaire has £30m at stake in the club.

“We’ve had some quite detailed discussions with three of the four bidders,” Whitehouse, of Duff and Phelps told The Sun.

“We have had discussions with all four, but only detailed discussions with three of the four. Hopefully we will have more clarity tomorrow.

“They are very real bidders and although two of them are very late to the table they are actually very advanced in their thought process, well engaged with advisers and well funded. They would be I believe popular with fans. Both bids.

“They are known names in both football and also within the Scottish community. There is certainly a more natural empathy with the club than Bill Miller had.

“There is a Rangers connection there. They want anonymity, but that will break in the next 24 to 48 hours.

“These bidders are in a position where they are well known and if they put their heads above the parapet there will be a crescendo of interest and support and they don’t want that yet. They will only do so if they are in a position of likely success.”

Whitehouse added: “Three of the four bidders are in the hands of lawyers. The lawyers have been instructed and there is documentation, etc, so are they at the forefront?

“They are certainly at a very advanced stage but so are two of the others. Brian Kennedy is what I would describe as the fourth bid.”

The cynical would wonder why any business minded people would want to put in £30m to stabilise Rangers over the summer with the potential of a £50m plus bill from HMRC being delivered any day soon.

With no European footballl next season, a legal wrangle with Ticketus over season ticket sales and players returning to full wages in three weeks time the odds are stacked against any new bidders being able to salvage Rangers from liquidation.

Most experts in football finances would expect anyone with serious money to invest in a club like Everton with obvious income streams through the Premiership rather than in Scotland where the opportunity to make profit is severely limited.

I wonder how much money Duff and Phelps have made so far out of this debacle? Weren’t they the “chosen” administrators by Craig Whyte? Perhaps they are working together on a 50/50 basis.

  • Ciaran says:

These “bidders” are concerned that if they allow their identity to slip, there will be a CRESCENDO of interest and support.

Fair enough, the last thing you would want if you were taking over a football club is interest, and least of all support.

I was born at night, but not last night.

Another week coming to an end, another preferred bidder, another new bidder, another old bidder re-entering (Brian Kennedy, Bill Ng- ooh the hokey cokey). When are Duff and Phelps going to put in a bid, they know the club inside out and made enough cash to be serious bidders.
