SPL Celtic newsHibs chief Rod Petrie has warned that sporting integrity can never be compromised.

Whilst other SPL clubs, notably Kilmarnock and Dundee United, debate between sporting integrity and commercial concerns the Hibs chief has nailed his colours to the mast.

The SPL will meet again at the end of May to vote on proposals to allow the transfer of a members share to a newco with the future of Rangers in mind.

Supporters across the country have vowed to stay away from clubs that allow a debt free newco into the SPL with Petrie’s thoughts in line with supporters.

Hibs finished the season in 11th place with Petrie and his fellow directors receiving stick for the tight financial reigns that they’ve kept on the clubs’ finances.

“It’s important to us that the integrity of the competition that we take part is maintained to the highest standards,” Petrie told BBC Scotland. “It’s not a question of any sum of money in return for that integrity

“It’s important that all clubs can have a place within football provided they have have earned it in a sporting sense and have abided by the rules.”

Petrie added: “If we are called upon to make any decisions, we will try and do the right thing and uphold the integrity of the competition that we are engaged in.

“We need to find a future for football that people want to be part of. We’re one of the leading clubs in the country and we have to play our part in making sure we have a successful and vibrant game. A game that’s attractive to supporters.”

Only in this country can we even try and ignore sporting integrity (not for the first time) over the establishment club

Sporting integrity has got to be upheld , yes , even this wee horribly biggoted country. And ANY club who votes for they arrogant bigots to stay in SPL should be boycotted.

  • williebhoy says:

ANY club that bows down to intimidation or allows finance to outweigh absolute integrity is signing their own liquidation notice. Loyal fans of EVERY club up & down the country WILL turn their backs on them. Other clubs fans will also snub visits to such clubs so they will pay a very heavy price indeed for acts of stupidity.

Finances do not come into the equation at all, they should also bear in mind whatever format Rangers FC (In Administration) morph into next season WILL not be supported by 50,000 fans. With a certain fire sale, no money to invest, no european football and any decent youth player cherry picked (If they remain at all when free) will attract crowds more akin to Motherwell / Hibs / Aberdeen circa 10-15,000 even less if / when they are rightly demoted to the 3rd division.

They dont do walking away ???…. haha.Wait and see what crowds they get next season.

    Clear choice then surely.
The Rangers under 19 support or Celtic and either some or all of the other team’s fans boycotting you.
Can those chairmen afford to harm their club in support of their heroes?
The fans need to have their say.

  • Stevie says:

Nice to hear at least one chairman has some morals hopefully Celtic feel the same way.
Any club that votes to allow a new club entry into SPL should be boycotted out of existence.
If dual contracts are proven shame fc should be banished to the lower leagues and further punished for the number of years dual contracts existed.
If cheat are allowed to go unpunished we’re as well giving up our game altogether.
The SFA is at a crossroads do the right thing and prosper or protect the establishment club and ultimately fail.
