Former Rangers star turns on David Murray

David Murray Rangers newsFormer Rangers defender John Brown has blamed David Murray for Rangers going into liquidation.

Brown spent almost 20 years at Ibrox as a player and coach before being removed by Paul le Guen but returned as a scout under Walter Smith and Ally McCoist.

As the blame game continues most fingers have been pointed at Craig Whyte with Murray’s role by-passed.

Brown was uncompromising as a player and didn’t miss his target as he discussed the reasons why Rangers could end up out of football next season.

“This is down to a mixture of arrogance and massive egos that got out of control,” he told The Sun. “Couldn’t the other directors control men like Murray and Craig Whyte? They had a job to do as well and they failed.

“I don’t think anyone from that nine-in-a-row era I was proud to be a part of can stomach to look at where we are now.

“And in my eyes Sir David Murray has to look at the Advocaat era as the beginning of the fall of Rangers. We were spending sums of money we could not afford.

“We were going beyond the budget. Money was being thrown at it. I mean Bert Konterman was on £18,000 a week! What the hell was that all about?”

The £12m signing of Tore Andre Flo in November 2010 was the peak of Murray’s lavish expenditure on Rangers.

With Celtic running away with the SPL under Martin O’Neill’s management Murray’s plans of a Rangers monopoly were under serious threat despite a summer of big spending that brought Fernando Ricksen, Bert Konterman, Kenny Miller and Ronald de Boer to Ibrox.

Murray had talked of buying a £10m striker but Brown was shocked by the feedback that he got on Chelsea’s Norwegian striker.

Brown admitted: “When we signed Tore Andre Flo for £12m Jim Duffy was reserve team coach at Chelsea.

“He phoned me and said ‘Are they off their heads?’. Duff said he was fifth choice at Chelsea and a semi-retired Luca Vialli was ahead of him.

“Then Richard Gough phoned me. He was at Everton and he’d played against him and he just didn’t rate Flo in that sort of bracket.

“Those would have been two simple phone calls to make. Were Sir David and Advocaat not doing their homework?

“It was not just the £12m, it was £30,000-a-week in wages, minimum. When you spend money like that, it’s just throwing it away.”

DOH….it has taken THIS long for the penny to drop with Brown…Instead of asking why other directors didn’t speak out years ago…WHY didn’t HE speak out himself.

Didn’t take a genious to work out that Rangers couldn’t afford such spending, nor that taking LOANS which didn’t need to be paid back MUST be illegal – yet they took the money and kept quiet.

Everyone at Rangers in the Murray era MUST take a share of the blame. LEG ENDS the lot of them, yet none have offered back the loans nor stepped forward to offer any help…says a lot about them.

The worst is yet to come and they will jump ship like rats, so much for the empty words the facts will show THEY DO – DO WALKING AWAY, unless they are running.

All brought upon themselves so no-one else to blame, Not Chelsea, Not the SFA, Not the SPL, not Catholic schools, Not Celtic…just themselves.

Still waiting for someone from this former club to actually admit responsibility even for a share of the blame…guess it will be a long wait.

Great points williebhoy. Isn’t this really what it is all about now? The creeps are coming out of the woodwork because they know the taxman is cioming to look at eveyone who benefitted from the underhanded corruption that we have been talking about for years. Tjhe SFA are not blameless here because we all know they were not innocent. They have given undivided favour to rangers for years by providing people like the bigoted ref mr. dallas, the liar, mr. mcdonald, the cheat and rangers fan, mr. collum, the biased “preacher” who actually conducted rangers songs in his church while shagging his parishoners behind his wife’s back, mr. willie young! All this and they are still defiant and arrogant to the point that they have now pissed everyone else off in Scotland. Not a single apology. Not a single sign of remorse. Not the slightest hint of wanting the same level playing field as the rest of us. Regardless of how this could affect the game in Scotland now, we have a chance to be seen as dignified people making the right decisions by kicking them into Div 3, if they are voted in of course. But when I think of the chaos when Ronald Biggs went on the run after the Great Train Robbery, it seems so insignificant compared to the magnitude of the shame that is glasgow rangers and their corruption in the game for at least the last twelve years. I am very cusrious to see what is uncovered now that they are starting to be fully investigated. To Mr. Grren, and Mr. Whyte, I say, “Thanks” “you are both GOLD!”

Spot on willebhoy; Brown has just confirmed what the Rankers have being trying to deny all this time. That they knew nothing about what was going on for all those years. Cheating, lowlife shower of s–t deserve all they get and more.

    Did Brown receive EBT’s?

The proverbial has now hit the fan. The next few weeks and months will be an awesome spectacle as
ex-ranjurr’s peepil begin to point accusing finger’s at each other possibly even suing each other in the process. Ogilvie will now be shi**ing buttons at the SFA. And now that there is no more ‘brownie points’ on offer Fat Sally see’s his opportunity to abandon ship as a hero; he knows full well that the players are heading for the exits now that there’s nothing left.
