Charlie Green wants to rename Murray Park even though he doesn’t own Rangers.
In a diversionary move sure to gain support with the more vocal element of the Rangers support the former Sheffield United chief wants to rename the Rangers training complex after Davie Cooper or club founder Moses McNeil.
With a dozen major obstacles to overcome ranging from possible expulsion from the SFA to a tax case that could hit £50m Green chose to focus on the re-naming of the training complex in a statement released tonight.
The Rangers training complex was opened in 2001 with the Ibrox board deciding to name it after the club chairman who had driven the club to over a decade of success.
Rangers have still to issue fans with season ticket renewal forms but that hasn’t prevented Green with pushing forward with his plans.
Following today’s meeting with the Rangers Fans Fighting Fund he said: “I provided the fans with further details of my consortium’s vision for the future of Rangers.
“Understandably, supporters are wary given the recent past at Ibrox but I will continue to have dialogue with the fans and inform them every step of the way.
“We will be taking Rangers forward to better days and one idea I put forward today is my plan to rename Murray Park.
“Following discussions with the supporters, we will be asking season ticket holders to vote on whether to rename Murray Park as either the Moses McNeil Academy or the Davie Cooper Academy. We will be asking supporters to vote when they renew their season tickets.
“We also discussed the situation with the SFA player embargo and I made it clear that the club’s position remains that we want to see a satisfactory outcome.
“We hope that in trying to achieve this there is general recognition this has become a difficult and complex issue for everyone.”

Well done Mr Green, the name of the training ground is, quite simply, the biggest, most pressing issue on all fans’ minds right now. It’s about time someone with your courage addressed this elephant in the room.

I agree with the idea of renaming and removing the Murray, from Murray Park but it’s wrong to ignore the contribution of David Murray, hence I propose it be renamed “Sir David” Park, or mibees Sir Craig’s park, mibees even “Greens Green”

Simple. Just call it ‘Cheating B@stards Park’so that all the RFC* fans can keep with the traditions of their football/business ways of doing things. That way Sir Tainted Murray is happy because its still named after him; Craig White is happy because it his name all over it and Charlie Green is happy because he won’t be around long enough to witness the word Green’s added as a pre-fix to it.
