Peer Lawwell Celtic newsCeltic have vowed to work with other SPL clubs to ensure the financial stability of the top flight.

Today’s vote to reject the application from Sevco to replace Rangers is a watershed moment in the history of the Scottish game.

Despite the profits of doom forecasting the demise of upto 20 clubs Celtic are ready to help build a new future for the game.

A Celtic statement tonight read: “Our supporters can rest assured that we will continue to fight to protect Celtic’s best interests within the Scottish game.

“In addition, we will be working with our other fellow SPL clubs in the days and weeks ahead to take all possible steps to maximise commercial returns, which remain crucial in these economically-challenging circumstances.

“We will also play an active role in mapping the future of Scottish football.

“The fans are the lifeblood of the game and we know how strongly our supporters, and those of other clubs, felt about this issue.

“We are confident that Celtic’s fans, together with the supporters of all the SPL clubs, will now play a major role in rallying behind their clubs to ensure that Scottish football emerges stronger from this episode.”

The statement added: “During Celtic’s long and illustrious 125-year history, there have been periods of difficulty. At these times, our supporters have always stood shoulder to shoulder with the Club. We need our supporters to be with us now, more than ever.

“We know our own supporters will be acutely aware of the significant challenges that lie ahead. We enter next season as Champions of Scotland and look ahead to retaining our title and to making an impact in a European context.

“We know how difficult this will be and we call on our supporters to join us in tackling these challenges, to take their place at Celtic Park, to invest in the Club and to continue to give us the kind of support for which they are renowned.”

A message to all the guys who go to the games now and again or when they can be bothered (i know moneys tight) Get yourself to every home game you can we need to sell out celtic park every game and show the buns we dont need them to support OUR club.

Why is there suddenly 20 teams going bust that wernt going bust last season ? Teams that never get into the spl dont go bust every season so whats changed. Some teams will need to tighting there belts like kilmarnock because nobody will go there because there snakes and maybe murderwell but most are run correctly so i cant see much changing. hail hail

All Celtic fans should boycott rugby park in light of kilmarnocks stance throughout this mess and also their decision to abstain from voting, they clearly nailed their colors tithe mast, and if they needed sevcos money so bad to survive just think how badly try will need ours now that sevco are gone! Bye bye Killie

  • Chaz says:

To all celtic supporters make sure u get your season books the rankers way will be to try and get a bigger home support than Celtic to try and show us up and the rest of the s p l so they can say we all miss the cheats

    • I am not sure how long that will last. I can not see them spending good money to watch poorish games after the initial vengeance mood wears off. That is if they ever have the confidence to invest their money at all in a don’t know where, don’t know when team.

Congrats to the CELTIC BOARD they kept their powder dry until their moment of intent. Neil Doncasters statement this morning saying that he did’nt expect the SPL to ballot this afternoon, gives the impression that he is not very well informed of his brief. SPL should also say good bye to him. HAIL HAIL

Well done to the Celtic Board in keeping cool heads when all around them were losing their’s. Just heard that waste of space Traynor go head to head with Stuart Cosgrove on bbc radio.

Well done to Cosgrove for putting the balloon in his place and telling it as it is. Traynor (forgetting it wasn’t one of his futile phone-in’s) tried to shout Cosgrove down over the msm being out of touch and soon to be out of business.

What a great day for football supporters everywhere.
