Green issues Celtic challenge

Charles Green newsCharles Green believes that Sevco will be in a stronger financial position than Celtic at the end of the season.

Since being granted conditional membership of the SFA on Friday the former Sheffield United chief has been on a charm offensive to win over reluctant Ibrox fans.

Season ticket sales have been counted in hundreds rather than thousands with Green’s boast that the club will have £30m in the bank at the end of July likely to fail.

After seeing off Brechin in the Ramsdens Cup the Yorkshireman issued a bullish challenge to the SPL champions.

“If you look at the balance sheets at the end of next season you should see the strength of the two companies,” Green claimed.

“We are in the Third Division and Celtic are in the SPL and what I’d like you to do is promise me at the end of this season, when all the games are played, examine the balance sheets of the clubs and tell me which one is the strongest?

“Then let’s see who has got the strongest balance sheet.

“We’ve not got the debt that any of these clubs have and on the last day of the season I would really enjoy some clever financial analyst looking at the balance sheets and debt-to-equity ratio of every club in Scotland.”

Rangers fans have been reluctant to buy into Green’s Sevco vision but that hasn’t put the Ibrox chief off from raising funds.

He added: “We said we would raise between £20million and £30m but the reason we couldn’t put the season tickets on sale was the same reason we couldn’t go out and raise further money until we knew we had a football club that was going to be allowed to ply its trade.

“That’s why we got that signed off on Friday and we have a meeting at 8.45am on Monday so we are hardly letting the grass grow under our feet.

“This is the start of the process on Monday when we go to London to start the meeting with stockbrokers. That is when the fans can take up ownership. They can buy into the club.”

What name that club takes remains a mystery with HMRC clamping down on phoenix businesses that bear a strong resemblance to a business that has been liquidated within the previous twelve months.

  • Paul1888 says:

Seriously? What is it with this clown? His club are in the Third Div but thinks they will be in a better financial position than everyone in the SPL.

How many season tickets have you sold compared to the clubs in the SPL? How much is the prize money for winning the Third Div compared to the prize money in any position in the SPL?

You may have less debt but you are only stronger financially if you can spend more than anyone else but still live within your means.

By his way of thinking then they will be in a financially better position than Man Utd, Man City, Barca & Real Madrid!! Wonder if he’ll stand by this statement if Celtic make it to the Champions League? Fuckwit!

  • paranoidandroid says:

I think Green’s using the political strategey: if you keep repeating your lies loudly enough and for long enough people will believe you.

    • Hevghirl says:

Para, it’s called ‘inferiorisation’ – something I learned about at uni (a process which was applied by the English on the Scots, particularly the Gaelic speakers, and continues today).

It is a tactic employed by abusers and bullies everyday to drum into you that you can’t live with them and that you are nothing without them – eventually the person on the receiving end starts to believe these lies and their self-esteem and confidence are shot to hell (see Scottish football).

It’s always a lie though and they know it, but perhaps if they repeat it often enough they’ll believe it too. How else do you explain the mass delusion?

      • paranoidandroid says:

Thanks for that Hevghirl. That’s an interesting bit of info. And I couldn’t agree more that it’s been a deliberate English tactic for centuries.

  • jebus says:

chucky is finally starting to understand what it means to be a “the rangers man”, spout paranoid ramblings and made up pish, and most important of all deflect and deny. Action and consequence…2 words that a hun just doesnt seem to understand.

  • Neil says:

This clown has more fascination with Celtic than he does about Sevco.
Stop cheatin, get your house in order and shout up

  • at least peter lawwell will have changed his suit more times this week that charlie will all season. ffs the guys a pauper and hes telling us about his debt to equity

  • sands1888 says:

Utter pish, what a useless waste of space, ill take great enjoyment out of this new mob going bankrupt before the end of season

  • Isn’t that bit about not having the debt of other clubs on a par with “for every fiver” ? Him and fat sally along with jardine and bomber – they should start up a comedy act. They could call themselves the Nomarx Brothers. They wouldn’t get any more laughs than they do already, but.

  • Hevghirl says:

Why is this “diddy team” commenting on a singular team in the top tier? It’s the equivalent of Yeovil Town comparing themselves on a daily basis with Manchester United/City with the exception that Yeovil Town probably isn’t packed to the rafters with thieves and thugs. It’s all so laughable but depressing at the same time that our club is being attacked on a daily basis by this guy and his pack of rabid dogs. Green-eyed monster much?

  • GSW says:

It’s a fair “challenge”. Things will be tough for Celtic next year, progress in Europe will be more important for financial health than it’s ever been, player commitments are not insubstantial, Merchandise revenues likely to be down, as are Multimedia revenues.

By interesting to see what Mr Desmond gets for his convertible preference shares next year.

[GSW is a Sevco fan, Financial wizard and Ramsdens Cup expert]

    • Stevie says:

Can’t possibly be any worse for Celtic or any other team in the SPL removing Rangers will let the league grow and find its natural level.
If one team out of a 12 team league is cheating whats fair about that situation.
What does Mr Desmond’s shares have to do with this, like Mr Murray Mr Desmond has pumped billions into football unlike the Sevco support Celtic fans wouldn’t believe any that crap.

  • Rhudebhoy66 says:

Simple – Playing to the hordes of Rangers (IA) fans who imagine that they are still a club with history and meaning.
Sad but was always going to happen.
He wants to be the same club that will soon die. The same club, the same fans. The same disgrace.

  • Stevie says:

So at the moment Sevco have footbal debts of £3 million + £5.5 million loan to green + interest and any other debt incurred so far.
To have the brass neck to shout about having the least debt in SPL after leaving behind £135 million worth of debt to HMRC and other creditors.

No wonder Sevco are the most hated club in Scotland if not worldwide, any luck HMRC haven’t finished with this mob yet.
    Scotland’s Shame.

  • Buffythecat says:

They struggled then stole the game at Brechin City for their place in the big Ramsdens Cup. Now Sevco’s architect wants to take on the world. You would have to be a complete fool or an SFA / SPL official not to see what Coco Green is about.

Talking the talk of the nuckledraggers to boost season ticket sales by sticking two fingers up at those they have cheated and stole from over the last twenty odd years must be one of the most degrading piece’s of marketing in Scotland PLC. Talk about tempting fate . . .will he even have a club by Christmas never mind next season. The clock is ticking Charlie . . .

  • Shamrock hoops says:

Why the silence from Celtic ?

    • joe crawley says:

Never interupt your enemy when he is making a f****g erse of himself!

    • mick1888 says:

Why even comment on this disillussioned old fool? Nah a dignified silence is fine by me Shamrock Hail Hail

  • Jamiebhoy1986 says:

This Green dude is funnier than Moonbeams & Agent Whyte put together. His drivel about who has the better balance sheet at the end of the season is an absolute joke considering they “done walking away” from £100million of debt, signed players they didn’t pay for & withheld millions in tax.

Further to that, the allegations that Celtic have formed 3 Newcos since 1994 is nothing short of defamatory and Mr Green should get his facts from more reliable sources than F*llow F*llow and the Vanguard Baboons forums before he ends up in court.

Irony – a new club formed by the dregs of a liquidated one participating in a competition sponsored by a pawnbroker

  • Scott Mackenzie says:

i couldn’t agree more stevie. Have this club no shame. How dare they boast about being stronger financially and having no debt when they have just had £130m wiped via liquidation, screwing the working men and woman of scotland. Surely hmrc should consider these shameful boasts when it looks at the fact they are still calling themselves rangers, with the same badge and strip. I would also like to add my weight behind the call for a statement from celtic to put this clown in his place. although i fully expect that will happen when the time is right – probably after they have had the titles stripped.

  • Martybhoy says:

This clown has not got enough money to buy another suit.

  • Joe Murray says:

Celtic don’t need to make any comment. Our board have got bigger fish to fry than bother about some jumped up chairman from the third division commenting on our finances. Our finances show we are on solid ground. They think because their club went to wall then all clubs will because of uncontrolable debt. Utter fantasy. Let’s see if he is able to keep his team afloat. Clown

  • Mrhappy says:

Another day another pop at Celtic from someone connected to sevco, why don’t Celtic come out with a strongly worded statement along the lines of ‘leave our business plan, and finances well alone as we have survived for 125 years without your help or suffering insolvency so I don’t think we need advice from someone who’s been in the door 2mins’ honestly what a brass neck, mere weeks after leaving behind masses of debt to various creditors and Charlie chalk has been quoted several times boasting about his new clubs debt free existence!!

  • joe crawley says:

This crap will go down well with the jam tarts fans ,they have signed 2 players that Hearts had to let go because they could not afford them as Rangers owed them £800,000,could not make it up!

    • GSW says:

The SPL hung on to Rangers prize money for last year, on the pretext that it would be used to pay off Hearts etc. Also, as a pre-condition of SFA membership, Rangers are committed to paying off the Football debts a second time. So Hearts will either be paid twice, or the SFA will just quitely hang on to the prize money themselves for $porting Int£grity reasons.

      • Jim says:

        GSW
Thats rubbish. No debts have paid so far by Sevco.
Why are you making things up?
The fine was for £13M unpaid in NI,VAT and Income Tax.
Less than 200K fine for an outstanding debt of 13M is great business for Sevco,I’m sure you must agree.
Football debts will have to be settled.
But multi millions Rangers(IA) owed will never be repaid.AND YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO COMPLAIN!!!
You really ought to grow up.

        • GSW says:

Thanks Jim, that’s an interesting perspective, how do other things look from planet Numpty?

Hearts don’t collect taxs? why would RFC have to pay NI to Hearts?

          One bit made sense,

“Football debts will have to be settled.”

Yeah, that’s the bit “newco” are on the line for (!?). And whose complaining? SFA/SPL are double accounting on this debt, one thing is for sure Hearts will only get paid once, and that will be from Rangers pockets, not the $FA/$PL.
