Charles Green newsMidfielder Pantelis Kafes has quit Sevco after two days at Murray Park to return to Greece.

The former internationalist is available on a free transfer but has decided to return home where he has played for PAOK and AEK Athens.

Ally McCoist is desperate to add to his squad with less than four weeks to go before the club starts a 12 month registration embargo.

Since Rangers went into administration in February over a dozen first team players have quit the club or not had their contracts renewed.

Maurice Edu, Goian Doran and Carlos Bocanegra are expected to quit the club during the current transfer window with McCoist having to scour the free transfer market for re-inforcements to his squad.

Former Celtic and Hearts striker Craig Beattie is amongst those signing targets but the Ibrox club face competition from Notts County for Beattie.

Ian Black was the first player to sign for Sevco and believes that he can win over the fans who remember him for a crude tackle on Nikica Jelavic that put the striker out of action for three months.

“I think I was a villain for every SPL team but that’s part and parcel of the job,” the former Hearts player admitted. “I’m sure I’ll win the fans over. I’m here to do a job for them.

“Some of them might have a bit of a grudge but I’ll just go out there and work and hopefully do the business for them.

“People who know me, know what I’m like. I don’t dwell on the past or talk about it. What happens, happens. You have to get on with it.

“He’s kicked on and moved down south now and I’m here.

“But I’m sure if he was here, I would go over and shake the big boy’s hand and enjoy working with him.”

    “Greek star quits Sevco”

A bit over-dramatic Joe. Green ‘found’ (don’t know how) Kafes and he agreed to come over for a couple of days for Aly to have a look, any decision resting with him. Well now he’s gone back, so what?

Also, I saw the story on the Rangers site as well about Black, saying he’ll win the fans round – Don’t think he need worry on that score, he’s quite a popular choice from those I’ve spoken to.
Looking forward to the season with him part of the team.
