Heartbroken Beattie awaits St Johnstone medical

Craig Beattie newsCraig Beattie has been offered a one year contract by St Johnstone- if he gets through a medical.

The chunky frontman was ditched by Hearts at the end of last season and failed to impress Charlie Green during a trial stint with Sevco.

Since leaving Celtic in 2007 the former Scotland striker has signed for seven different clubs starting a total of 63 games in five years.

Saint Johnstone are keen to add to their striking options after losing Francisco Sandaza and rejecting Kevin Kyle following a short training stint at the club.

Beattie will undergo his medical early next week with Steve Lomas concentrating his thoughts on today’s SPL clash with Motherwell.

The Fir Park side crashed out of the Champions League on Wednesday to Panathinaikos with Lomas full of respect for Stuart McCall’s achievements.

The Saints boss said: “Their budget (Panathinaikos) will have been about about 20 times more than Motherwell’s budget so there has to be a level of realism about the size of task they faced.

“You can produce a shock in a one-off game but it is much more difficult over two legs. But we know that whatever team Stuart McCall puts out tomorrow will be a good team.

“He has done a magnificent job at Motherwell, they have a good team spirit and a good blend of players and don’t forget they qualified for the Champions League last season so we know we will have to be at our best.”

Hope Beattie get the chance to meet Sevco and show them their mistake 🙂

As usual, this article has a very particular slant on it. Some perspective is required.

    “failed to impress Charlie Green”

Beattie impressed both Ally and Green, they were very keen to do a deal. Green spent a large part of last weekend talking the Beattie’s “people”, he wouldn’t do that if he wasn’t “impressed”.

The background is this; Beattie had nowhere to play this year and the transfer season is coming to an end, he needs to find somewhere, ideally an EPL place or other. He hasn’t found one, so needs to make do for ~12months hoping something will turn up thereafter.

Rangers in SFL3 isn’t ideal for him and it’s just a simple fact that signing players for 12months is of no interest to Rangers; they can’t sign any more players after this until the SFL2 season is half over, Beattie leaving prior to SFL2 leaves the team a man down with no possibility of replacement. This may be OK for him, but it just doesn’t work for Green/Rangers.

So Ally was very keen, Green was very keen, but they need Beattie on a contract that will see them past SFL2, if they can’t get that he’s worth ~ 0.

I know it amuses you all to think that Ally&Green don’t agree, or that Green wants to “pick” the team but there is no evidence of that (Kafes, Green’s man, didn’t make it past Ally you’ll remember). Ally says who he wants, Green gets them in on terms that make sense, what’s the problem with that?

I could go on about it short term contracts making sense for St J and Beattie so it’s a good fit, but I’m sure you’d rather make up your own backstories, funny handshakes, masons ruling the world etc.

What makes you think you will win the 3rd? Also it doesnt matter what suits rangers. They are dead, you are the mighty sevco, deal with it

      • GSW says:

Of course Rangers will win the 3rd. SFL3 is not the “beautiful game” you’d imagine, it’s something different. Rangers are going to have to work out how to deal with these adrenalin pumped home teams, grabbing hold of McCulloch, body checking Black at every opportunity. They’re none of them out to Rangers any favours and why should they?

Grabbin hold of McCulloch? Body checking Black at every opportunity? Well I never!! Shocking treatment towards two of Scotlands fairest sportsmen..hahaha

  • Jamie The Sniper says:

Grabbing hold of McCulloch? Beatifiul Game? You play thugball & the closest Mr McCulloch gets to proper football is Iniesta is Spanish & McCulloch uses his El Bows 😉

Yes, I saw that too. One minute that Peterhead defender gets another warning for holding, next minute there’s blood coming from his mouth. Lee’s explanations do make better television.
