John Kennedy Celtic newsCeltic’s u-20 side face Motherwell tonight in the second match of the u-20 league, kick off 7pm.

A goal from Bahrudin Atajic settled last week’s match against St Mirren while Motherwell’s match with Dundee was postponed.

International duty rules out full-backs Mikey Miller and Joe Chalmers from the trip to Fir Park but that gives other youngsters the chance to step up and show that they are ready to play at a higher level.

“We’re expecting a tough game but it will be a good experience for everyone to play at Fir Park,” John Kennedy explained.

“The decision to play at senior stadiums rather than training grounds is a big help. Players get a taste of the big match atmosphere and the facilities are far better.

“We also get a better perspective from our video analysis and all these aspects help to develop players.

“Our development squad has players closer to the first team but we’re happy to go in with a young squad and give players their chance.

“They came onto a good game last week and it’s important to start at the right tempo in every match.

“Motherwell always have strong youth teams with good players, they’ll be anxious to make an impression in their first match.”

Kennedy added: “With the games on a Tuesday night we have to build our week around that. Last season with weekend matches we were used to Sunday being a day of recovery or rest, now it’s a full working day.

“The Tuesday night games will take a bit of getting used to but the new league s a step in the right direction and we’re looking forward to facing Motherwell.”
