John Herron Celtic newsScotland’s u-19 side lost 1-0 to Germany at the Falkirk Stadium with four Celtic players in Ricky Sbragia’s side.

Mikey Miller and Joe Chalmers played at full back with Marcus Fraser also in defence with John Herron in midfield as the Scots went down to a 51st minute strike from Marcel Karcher.

Jay Fulton, son of former Celt Stevie, came on as a late substitute in front of a crowd of 869.

The match was arranged as a warm up for the European Championship qualifiers in October which Scotland will host with matches played at Falkirk and Hamilton.

Next week Sbragia will take his squad to Norway for a double header next Thursday and Saturday.

The German’s are traditionally strong at youth level with former Liverpool full-back Christian Ziegle in charge of the current u-19 side.

Scotland found the match heavy going with the Germans having the edge in most areas and deserving their victory.

Tonight at East End Park Dunfermline Tony Watt and Lewis Toshney are included in the Scotland u-21 squad to face Belgium ahead of the remaining two matches in their European Championship qualifying section.

Watt could be in line to gain his first cap at this level following the withdrawl of the Dundee United duo of Johny Russell and Gary Mackay-Steven.

Despite those call ups Celtic’s u-20 side face Motherwell with the action at Fir Park kicking off at 7pm.

SCOTLAND: Hamilton (GK) (Anderson, 45), Miller (Gilmour, 65), Kingsley (Chalmers, 45), Davey (Stanton,65), Grimmer (Cpt), M. Fraser, Kennedy (Fraser, 52), Herron, Erwin (McManus, 52), MacLeod (Fulton, 84), McKay (Johnston, 52).
