Paolo di Canio newsPaolo di Canio hit out again at his Swindon players after losing their third game in a week when Leyton Orient won 1-0 at Swindon’s County Ground.

The former Celtic striker has spent a week in the spotlight after substituting goalkeeper Wes Foderingham midway through the first half of a 4-1 defeat at Preston North End.

That incident led to di Canio offering to repay unhappy season ticket holders and was followed by a defeat at local rivals Oxford United in the Football League trophy.

The emotional Swindon boss is clearly concerned by the attitude of his players and not shy about airing his views in public.

After two or three games I have discovered that my players do not have the quality to improve,” di Canio declared after yesterday’s defeat. “I did not mind losing the record, it was bound to happen one day, but it was the way we lost I did not enjoy. There was not the desire or the 100% commitment.

“After this week’s results I think I have over-estimated my players. It was an empty performance in terms of heart but I could not imagine we would lose in this way.”

Despite back to back defeats Swindon are still sitting in mid-table with seven points from five matches.

With the transfer window closed di Canio has little option but to work with the current squad with loan deals unlikely from other English clubs.

Former Celtic midfielder Simon Ferry was a 51st minute substitute in yesterday’s defeat with former hoops team-mate Paul Caddis sent on loan to Birmingham after falling out with di Canio.

The way he said that was worse than when Mobray told his celtic team they “werent good enough for the shirt”. how the hell does he expect to see an improvement when he delivers such a nasty confidence sapping blow to his team. hope he never becomes our manager in the future.

F**k him, narcissistic arsehole – loved seeing him wearing the hoops – but a total prick of a human being!

  • Scott says:

Maybe he’s a joke, but not as much as a 3rd division no history joke- keep arguing- keep losing that argument. The history disappeared with the debt. Dundee United forever.

  • Stevie says:

What a great player for Celtic.
    But a space cadet too.

it appears his players have chucked it. What else does he expect to happen. Obviously they are not going to be the same standard of player as he was but they are professional footballers and won’t take kindly to being publically humiliated. His days are numbered, he won’t see out the month. And who will hire him now?

Di Canio seems to have a leetle problem. Looks like he has lost the dressing room. Only one ending for him now. Get on your knees and apologise to Fergus!
