Artur Boruc Celtic newsArtur Boruc is close to signing for Everton.

The former Celtic keeper trained with the Premiership side yesterday and is in talks over a deal until the end of the season.

Boruc left Celtic for Fiorentina two years ago and turned down the opportunity of a new deal with the Italian side.

As a free agent he is allowed to sign for a club outwith the transfer window with Everton looking for experienced cover for Tim Howard.

In five seasons at Celtic, Boruc became a fans favourite with some spectacular displays on the park matched by an unorthodox approach to the game and life off the park.

The peak of his powers came in the 2006/07 Champions League campaign when he saved a penalty from Manchester United’s Louis Saha to help the club through to the knock-out stage of the Champions League.

During his time in Glasgow Boruc picked up three SPL winners medals and was one of the top keepers at the 2006 World Cup and also Euro 2008.

After initially signing for Celtic on a season long loan he made his debut replacing David Marshall in the 4-0 win over Artmedia Bratislava and was rarely out of the team during his five years at the club.

With a year left on his contract Celtic accepted a £1.5m bid for Boruc with the keeper switching flights at Heathrow to go to Italy while Celtic flew out to Boston for pre-season training.

In November 2010 he got his chance at Fiorentina and kept Sebastian Frey out of the side once the Frenchman had recovered from injury.

If Boruc goes to Everton he’ll be re-united with Davie Weir who he famously man handled during one of many flash-points in clashes with Rangers.
