Doncaster seeks reconstruction consensus

Neil Doncaster SPL newsNeil Doncaster has admitted that the SPL is split over league reconstruction.

During the summer reconstruction suddenly became fashionable among the authorities as they attempted to ensure that Sevco can reach the top flight as quickly as possible.

Alongside Stewart Regan of the SFA Doncaster lobbied strongly for Sevco to be placed in the First Division with an expanded SPL including play-offs offered to sweeten the deal.

SFL clubs rejected those moves leaving Sevco at least three seasons away from the top flight under the current set up.

At an SPL meeting yesterday reconstruction was again up for debate but there is little consensus amongst the clubs for an expanded top flight or for altering the current set up to accelerate Sevco through the divisions.

“There is a real desire for change within the game,” Doncaster claimed. “There is a public appetite for change, and that is matched by clubs as well so hopefully we can work together to come up with a set of proposals on which we will get a consensus.

“Different clubs have different views about what the ideal format is. I think it’s important on any change that you form a consensus.

“So we’ll be working with all parties within Scottish football, our clubs and obviously the SFA and SFL, to see if we can agree exactly what that consensus should be.”

Despite Doncaster’s claims of Armageddon and the meltdown of commercial income no SPL club appears on the brink of administration although pay-days at Tynecastle are a continuing problem.

“Crowds have held up very well, commercial income is holding up pretty well in terms of central revenues,” the SPL chief added.

“We are delighted that the focus is once again on the football, which is where it should be.”

The only desire for change that I can detect is the over whelming need to change those who run / ruin our game.

Better to run before the Lance Armtrong type ripple hits Scottish Football and all those who acted to keep things secret are unveiled.

I agree with williebhoy. There are a lot of other things in the SFA and SPL- issues and people- that need to be ‘sorted-out’ before we even think about league reconstruction. For a start, the EBT verdict needs to have been made public, and we, the fans, need to know about everyone who was invoved in it.

How can anybody, anywhere have any confidence in the people running our game until all the guilty have been exposed and punished?

Firing Ogilvie, preferably out of a cannon, would be a good place to start, but we need a lot more than that before we can ever trust Regan and Doncaster to reconstruct our game.

    No reconstruction

Ogilvie,Regan & Doncaster must be shown the door.

Reconstruction may not be necessary if the people in power are removed along with their hidden agendas. The SPL seemed a good enough way forward at its inception, perhaps if it was governed by competent people with a desire to push our game forward in unison with the SFA then it may not be too bad a concept as it is.

To me it seems that reconstruction is the flavour of the month as it takes the focus away from years of mismanagement and puts the blame on the league set up. Its easy to say its not our fault if the line that is being pushed is that the set up is flawed. I’m at a bit of a loss to see exactly the reasons being mooted why reconstruction is needed. We hear it is to make our game better, stronger, richer, more focus on youth etc….how will that be delivered exactly ? Its all a smoke screen…..

As a side note, why do we keep seeing reference of the likes “ensure that Sevco could return to the top flight as quickly as possible”…..SEVCO have never been in the top flight so how can they return ?

  • Buffythecat says:

Totally agree! No reconstruction before the corrupted clowns of Scottish football are dealt with. Regan and Doncaster along with Mr Corrupt himself ‘Ogilvie’ are trying like ”bears” to shoehorn Sevco into the upper league by any means possible.

    We won’t be fooled again.

Let’s get the dead Ranger’s situation out in the open before ANYTHING else happens otherwise its more corruption and that’s just not on.

  • Stevie says:

Lets not try and fool anyone reconstruction is only being Concidered to save Sevco, it’s nothing to do with finance crowds levels or sponsorship it’s to save an establishment team who are dead but dressed up as Sevco.
I believe Scottish football will die if Sevco are allowed to re-enter the top league early, they shouldn’t be playing in the professional game with no accounts anyway.

  • Willie says:

Let’s be honest here if they think that giving Sevco a helping hand back to the top league will help matters they are badly mistaken.

Fans will turn their back on the SPL or whatever guise they want to call it in their droves. Why watch a product that you know is fixed.

Anyone that thinks Sevco would compete in the top flight is chasing moonbeams, losing to Stirling Albion, QOTS and draws with Anna, Peterhead etc clearly indicate they would be in the relegation mire. How loyal do you think the fans would be then…back to old days with 4,000 & pulling the rest down with them.

They have made their bed, let them lie in it…see if they still insist the nonsense about being the same club when the Prize money has to b repaid….No holding Company has ever won a title, even a tainted one. Armstrong has to pay back his cheated prize money, the precedent has been set….Ohhh your a NEW club now 🙂 Well enjoy paying double the price of others to watch Amateurs / Part-time dross.

I note Sally now has trust in Chico…amazing what a million free shares can do to ones credibility. How many did Crook Whyte buy for £ 1 ? 25million doesn’t say much for Sally’s own self esteem.
