Darnell Fisher newsDarnell Fisher is looking to build on last week’s draw at Hearts when Celtic face St Johnstone at Firhill tomorrow night.

The goal-less draw at Newtongrange ended Celtic’s 100% start to the domestic season but with half a dozen regulars away on international duty it was a well earned point.

Celtic face Hearts again next Sunday at Tynecastle in the SFA Youth Cup with Fisher certain to be involved.

“We had a makeshift defence at Hearts and I felt that we coped well,” the right-back admitted. “Hearts is always a tough game especially when we had so many players away in international squads.

“Eoghan O’Connell and Mikey Miller came in and did a great job in central defence and it was pleasing to keep a clean sheet.

“It was a tough physical game and we can take a lot from it, you have to cope with those type of matches and I’m sure it’ll be just as tough when we play Hearts again in the cup.”

Fisher has made the right-back position his own this season after arriving at the club as a central midfielder.

Having missed out on the academy background that most players experience from an early age the former Eldon Celtic kid is determined to make the most of his opportunity in Glasgow.

“If someone had told me five years ago that I’d be playing for Celtic I’d have laughed at them,” Fisher admitted. “I’d never given Scottish football a thought till I came up here but after signing I’ve not looked back.

“My friends back in Reading look out to see how Celtic are doing, during the summer I went along to a presentation at Eldon Celtic, I keep in touch with Alex Donaldson and everyone at the club is pleased with how things are going for me.

“When I joined Celtic I was a centre midfielder but I’m now happier playing at right back. It allows me to push forward and see more of the pitch which I enjoy. I know that I’ve got lots to work on, I’m always asking Joe Chalmers about crossing because he has a great left foot.

“I travelled with the first team squad to St Johnstone a few weeks back and that was a great experience apart from the result.

“Adam Matthew got a knock on the Friday and I got called up, watching the first team prepare was something new to me and that’s the target for everyone at the club.”

Tomorrow’s match at Firhill kick’s off at 7pm, free entry.
