Blame game underway from former Rangers directors

Paul Murray Rangers newsFormer Rangers director Paul Murray has called on the authorities to do the job that he failed to perform.

While the spin on the big tax case has declared a victory for Rangers the detail and small print paints a different story with the tax liability transferring from the club to the individuals that benefited from 11 years of complex taxing issues.

As a club director Murray knew more than most about the detail involved but wasn’t prepared to invest in the club or put together a consortium to buy out David Murray while the extent of the tax case was unknown.

Craig Whyte and then Charles Green took on the risk that Murray steered clear of but after Tuesday’s announcement Murray wants a full investigation into the goings on at the club where he was a director until May 2011.

What we are dealing with here is the destruction of a 140-year-old Scottish institution,” Murray told the Daily Record. “That in itself warrants an investigation of some sort.

“The fact that the circumstances surrounding this case remain very complex and unclear further leads to a need for answers as to how and why it was allowed to happen.

“Currently the legal custodians of ‘oldco’ are BDO. So I am calling on them, on behalf of all the stakeholders in Rangers – the shareholders, the fans, the creditors and even the players – to launch an urgent inquiry into how it reached this stage.

“As the custodians, they are morally and legally obliged to get to the bottom of what went on. It is their responsibility to examine the chain of events that led to Rangers’ demise and the actions of those people who were involved in it.

“On the back of that they can potentially pursue damages against any parties who have disadvantaged the club. We could be talking here, at a conservative estimate, of tens of millions of pounds. So I am calling on BDO to start that process as a matter of urgency.”

    Am I not right in thinking they did not pay a tax bill under Craig Whyte in the region £12m and thats what forced them to die? Am I not right in thinking the big tax case had no bearing on their demise as this was not yet settled?

    Go on to the scottish sun website today and you would think you are on a hun website. It unreal. ‘back from death row’ I’m sure it said. NO!!!! THEY DID DIE!!!!!

      Clearly explained by Davi Murray, saying the CLUB was destroyed, and reiterated by Paul Murray ,What we are dealing with here is the destruction of a 140-year-old Scottish institution,” Not the club is unwell, sick, or poorly, but Destroyed..DEID! A one way ticket! HH

  • Greenjedi says:

    Murray had a chance to save them and decided not to, I know he must find it hard to accept this but hey ho

    What the fuck is going on? Celtic need to get out of Scottish football.

      Everybody and their dog knows they were at it.And now they try to take the moral high ground .they are middens.And theres no way on Gods earth they will be stripped of titles obtained by cheating . What a horrible country.

  • Let me get this right, Oldco were cleared by HMRC about their EBT scheme but what about SPL/SFA don’t they have a say about the scheme with regards to the non-declaration of dual contracts. After all I couldn’t give a monkey’s about Oldco debts but this is the main reason the issue of stripping of titles was raised was it not – nothin to do with debt or HMRC but for breaching FOOTBALL rules??

    • Ciaran says:

      I agree. The SFA should not be concerned if tax was paid or not on wages to players. They only concern themselves with the way those players are registered, and if all earnings are declared in the contract.
      The FTT declared that Rangers were not adhering to the rules of the Association where player registrations were concerned.
      Let the stripping begin.

  • Morto says:

    Settle down guys. The tax case only decided that the operation of the EBT Scheme wasn’t illegal. It has REDUCED the tax liability as ‘some’ of the payments were not loans and were confirmed as payments related to playing for the club. So the outcome is:
    1 Tax is due (from Oldco) for some payments made to players.
    2 For the payments declared loans these should be repaid by the recipients – players and staff.
    3 As some of these payments were football related and not declared on player contracts this virtually decides the SPL tribunal as guilty.
    The only outstanding issue is what (if any) the punishment will be.

    Correct me if im wrong, the scum were liquidated due to whyte not paying £15 million owed to hmrc, knuckledragers

  • TJ Hooper says:

    Frankly this is one of the best outcomes for the FTT I could have hoped for. There’s a few good reasons for that:

    1. The clearly were found to be cheating the tax man even if it was a bit less than the tax man claimed – they were not absolved as has been reported;
    2. Even if the liability was monsterously big they’re not going to be paying it anyway so the amount is irrelvant to society as a whole from RFC (may they rest in peace);
    3. The fact that its been decided that some of them payments were loans means there’s going to be a whole load of disgruntled former players and managers etc (Souness being one – yasss!) that look like they are going to be asked to repay what they thought (and presumably had been told by Minty) was their earnings – queue more revelations and cat-fights;
    4. The bears are all aware now that if they’d really dug deep, done proper due diligence on the peepel buying into the club or hadn’t listened to a compliant media telling them its all internet bampottery – they might just still have a club there to support and a scabby, tainted history of trophies to cling desperately to.

    Anyway on more important things, what about Benfica claiming Barca didn’t try against us?!?! Cooo, get a load of her!

  • barcabuster says:

    There is only one group of peepel to blame for their death! The players, managers, and directors who, despite being wealthy men, decided to renege on their, ahem, loans. The false deity badge kissers done them up like a kipper.

  • Only in Scotland would a thing like this happen . We are above the law we are the people

  • pj44 says:

    What are the peepul like.They get a result and all of a sudden they want enquiry about breach of rules abandoned to save their titles. This seems to be the only thing keeping them attached to Newco.God,how sick are they?Thanks to the authorites they will have to wait a few months more,[so let them buy their shares for xmas from Santa Green].What a waste of money.
