David Murray Rangers news

David Murray has surfaced for only the second time this year to speak out after the verdict of the First Tier Tax Tribunal and criticise the BBC.

Since selling Rangers to Craig Whyte for £1 the former rent-a-quote Ibrox owner has kept an uncharacteristic low profile only speaking out earlier this year claiming that he had been duped into selling to the former billionaire from Motherwell.

Murray’s almost total control of the media has been eroded by the digital revolution but as he mulls over selling an asset once rated at over £200m for £1 his  anger was aimed at the BBC.

Mark Daly’s second programme, in May while Rangers were attempting to put together a CVA, was titled ‘Rangers: The men who sold the jerseys’ and contained allegations of who had received EBT’s claiming that £6m had been paid to Murray.

Investigative journalist Daly received a BAFTA award this week for bringing to light some of the details behind the crash and liquidation of Rangers with Murray choosing the Herald to convey his anger.

Nobody has won, there is no point in me waving a big flag and saying we have won – Rangers has been destroyed,” the former Ibrox chief declared. ”What I find amazing is we were guilty until proven innocent.

This is the only case in history where awards were given to TV programmes when there hasn’t even been a result.

But I need to stand back at the moment, this is not a time for triumphalism because nobody has won, the taxpayer hasn’t won and Rangers hasn’t won. This should never have happened.”

The amount of time, effort and fees could be seven to eight million quid on top of that. Clearly if that had happened we would not have ended up with Craig Whyte.

The biggest question is why the Revenue knew in August 2011 that Craig Whyte wasn’t paying national insurance and tax but didn’t put him down – this has so many ramifications for business.”

Possibly a bigger question is why Murray sold the 139-year-old Scottish institution to Whyte for £1.

if i were sir davie i’d keep lying low as there’s plenty more revelations to come out in the wash

  • NoPretender! says:

that is exactly the kind of uneducated drivel you would come to expect from this man

  • Scott Mackenzie says:

how dare he talk about how the taxpayer hasn’t won. regardless of the legal and lawful loophole they exploited – they deliberately avoided paying around £40m in tax – legal or not.

they hid these payments (not loans as you have to pay a loan back) from the spl/sfa – knowing full well it gave them an unfair advantage when trying to attract players.

why is he angry at mr daly ? he is the only msm reporter that did his job by reporting the truth, while others lied and tried to hide it.

if they get off without title stripping it will be a travesty of justice, fair play and make a mockery of sporting integrity.

    • yogithebear67 says:

Spot on Scott Mackenzie. The SFA probe into double contracts MUST result in tainted titles and cups being stripped from the cheats – otherwise the game in Scotland is indeed finished.

  • Mike Bhoyle says:

A compliant Scottish “Meeja” will continue to back this buffoon…come what may.
I only hope that there is much more to come out of this whole sorry debacle…..
And he gets exposed for the charlatan he is…

  • The Hurricane says:

And A Bigger Question, “WHY did Murray offer £10,000,000 to HECTOR? Was this when there was more evidence available? before the Shredder Operation! Or maybe that was just a Loan as well!

  • jellytastesevenbetter says:

CELTIC WON! CHEATS DIDN’T. Underhand hidden loans??? WHY???? Still financial doping in the eyes of every true sports fa. Playing the smart arse, sailing close to the wind looking for any advantage is what killed you.

  • Shamrock hoops says:

Hector’s not finished with these cheating cunts…..
    watch this space!!!

  • BigMonti says:

What does he mean ” stand back”? Could be a tricky one for him.

  • Mark says:

Am glad they “WON” the tax case because it changes everything oh no wait a minute there still dead there newco is still in the lowest division in the scottish league and there still skint no actually it changes nothing lol great win zombies it’s just like beating barca lol hail hail THE ZOMBIES ARE STILL RAGING

  • Mark says:

Chill out mate i would’nt worry about them and there feelings because beleive me there writing a lot worse about us FACT so chill HH

    • Thai Tim says:

That is no excuse. Celtic fans don’t stoop low just because “they” do. Grow up and act responsibly like a true Celtic fan.

  • Bertie says:

If Murray and his head of tax at his company had complied with HMRC sooner they wouldn’t have been in the position they were. Total moonbeam making fantasy figure that he is.

  • The silver fhox says:

Minty Murray is angry because he appears to have been found out. This is how people react when they have been exposed. It appears that he was to blame for spending irresponsibly to stay ahead of ‘others’. As the ‘Hurricane’ says, Murray offered Hector £10 million to go away – and he didn’t bite.

All the others involved in this mess are getting very edgy too. People with nothing to worry about are usually quietly confident and don’t shout from the rooftops. It is NOT finished. HMRC said that their tactic was now to go after individuals. These individuals must have known exactly what they were doing. ‘Methinks they protesteth too much’ – a sure sign that they are worried. It has been stated by others that they avoided tax, shredded and covered up documents and that they did not cooperate with HMRC and there may be truth in this. If true, they are to blame for their own demise.

Perhaps instead of hatred, if they had listened to warnings at the correct time, instead of to a compliant press, then their club may have been saved. Now Hector is coming for the individuals. Just watch the blame game expand now.

Behaviour changes in individuals who feel threatened by exposure, or who have been exposed. How can you sell up such a business for £1 unless you want rid of it because it is not performing and you are getting nervous. Only an imbecile would believe that Mr Murray was ‘conned’ into selling. It is too easy to blame Craig Whyte. He simply ran out of money and fell into the trap of not paying taxes – despite supposedly having off the radar wealth.

Nobody yet knows what Charles Green’s plans are, but many are suspicious. To claim that they are now debt-free is also arrogance. This was gained to the detriment of others – not something to be particularly proud of. Where is the acceptance of responsibility in all this? I believe that Scottish football is better off without this arrogance and pursuit of superiority through the new God – money. At the moment, in the SPL, youngsters are getting their chance in all teams.

This is healthy for the game and clubs will become less dependent on the cheque book and taking on too much debt. We can do without the cheque book mentality and allow our game to develop. This would be helped if we had sensible people in charge of our game – which we do not.

  • barcabuster says:

Only one group of peepel responsible for the death of Rangers. …YIRSELS! If your managers and badge kissers, paid back their so called loans, And you, personally Mr Murray, repaid your $6m+ EBT transaction, Rangers would not be deid!

  • mike bhoyle says:

I’ve been told that BDO (Appointed Liquidators)will now go after these loans.
    Should make for interesting times…
    Serious question ‘though….
If you were loaned say £1 million…and now you claim you don’t have it….what happens then?
    Are assets (house/car etc) seized?
    Anybody know?

  • Antonious F says:

Is it any wonder the administration of scottish football is in such a bad state. They appointedt a person who has a habit of ‘mislaying’ documents into the position of president after all. could he be Mr Red? a person, who based in the comments it the FTT docs, obviously lied under oath

  • BigMonti says:

    Robocop is in the house

  • williebhoy says:

If he that upset why not take Mr. Daly / BBC to court and truly sort out all the lies……or instead run for the hills before the world finds out the real truth.

Besides which, the BTC is still open to appeal to the Upper tribunal which might put your “victory” back into the garbage with the rest of the tainted titles your former club “Won” LOL

  • Mark says:

Any old excuse really, its nobodys fault apart from Rangers.
