Mick McCarthy Wolves newsFormer Celt Mick McCarthy has wasted no time making his mark at Ipswich Town.

McCarthy has been appointed to rescue the club from relegation after a disastrous start to the season that led to the sacking of Paul Jewell.

Relegation would be a disaster for the club but with a cv sprinkled with promotion winning campaigns the ultimate aim is to join neighbours Norwich in the Premier League.

McCarthy is famed for his straight talking and hasn’t wasted any time getting his message across on the training ground.

“I said to the players this morning ‘you will all point fingers at everyone else’, but they all have to look at themselves,” he explained.

“Maybe (they need) a fresh voice, a different way of doing things. I am hoping that is going to be the case in two tough away games.

“I have just walked in the door today. It would be wrong of me to judge people after one training session. I am hopeful I can turn it round with the players that I have got.”

Daryl Murphy is one of eight loan signings that McCarthy has inherited with the new man admitting that it is a concern.

“There is a problem with the loan players,” McCarthy added. “That is an issue, it’s not perfect to have so many loans.

“But the squad has some good players. I know the history. Whenever I have been here, I have always been impressed by the club. Everything about this place is really good – except the team! That’s my job.

“I just have to inflict my beliefs and personality on them. It is any way to get a result at this moment in time.”

Oops Mick! Thats a bit undermining if you ask me! Quite derogatory. I think you have some apologizing to do to get any backing there.

I don’t think loan signings are the problem, the major problems are the guys under-performing and on long term / high wage contracts.

McCarthy has a job on his hands for sure, but the benefit of knowing he won’t get the full blame if he can’t turn things around – but will get all the credit if the players do !!

Good luck to him I like his straight talking.
