Rod Stewart, Jimmy Johnstone and Bobby Lennox Celebrity CeltsRod Stewart was seen in tears by millions of television viewers following Celtic’s 2-1 victory over Barcelona.

The football loving superstar has been following Celtic since the early seventies and attends a dozen games a season when ever his commitments allow.

In 1995 he opened the North Stand at the revamped Celtic Park and was given a seat in the directors box for life.

Last night’s drama proved too much for the singer as the tension of Celtic going 2-0 up was balanced out by four minutes of stoppage time and a late goal from Lionel Messi.

Celtic Park let out an almighty roar at the final whistle with Stewart turning to celebrate with a friend as he took a handkerchief to his eyes.

The unexpected win was greeted with delight by Celtic fans throughout the globe as a worldwide audience tuned in expecting Barcelona to turn over the SPL champions.

Goals from Victor Wanyama and teenager Tony Watt were met with elation within the ground and amazement amongst neutrals as Barcelona lost for the first time this season.

As the teams emerged for the kick-off they were greeted by an awesome tifo display celebrating Celtic’s 125th birthday with the North Stand showing Celtic and 125 in an incredible display.

Virtually no-one predicted a Celtic win but by full-time Stewart and others were in tears as another incredible chapter in Celtic’s history was penned.

Neil Lennon’s side are now sitting in second place in Group G with seven points from four matches knowing that a win away to Benfica next month will guarantee their place in the last 16 and a bumper pay day of at least another £5m.

Win lose or draw, I along with every true Celtic supporter will stand behind Lenny and the bhoys for life.

Absolutely fantastic on & off the park – superb.
However while we can enjoy a couple of days basking in the glory, we should remain focussed on qualifying, still a lot of work to be done yet.
Benfica (a) will be another huge hurdle, remember Barcelona had already qualified last season then lost at home to Rubin Kazan, so could be in a similar position.

But that’s for the future…now we can enjoy the moment and look forward to the weekend. Good to know Chico Green doesn’t want any part in such nights, preferring to play against Elgin & such like.
