Brown: Hooper in England would be worth £15-20m

Gary Hooper newsScott Brown doesn’t want to see any cut price departures from Celtic.

With squad fillers regularly moving for £5m a time Celtic instantly dismissed Norwich’s bid for Gary Hooper.

More bids are expected over the remainder of the transfer window but it will take an offer close to £10m to bring Celtic to the negotiating table.

Hooper will have the ultimate say in any deal, being at liberty to knock-back a move and could well opt to stay at Celtic till the end of the season rather than go through the upheaval of a January move when he has so much to play for.

Circumstances play a big factor in January deals with Liverpool signing Luis Suarez for a third of the Fernando Torres fee- but blowing £35 on Andy Carroll.

Where Hooper fits in is anyone’s guess but the difference between SPL and Premiership is surely balanced up to an extent by Hooper’s Champions League record in the qualifiers and group matches.

“Everyone puts Gary down because he plays in Scotland for Celtic,” Brown observed. “If he was doing this week-in, week-out in the English Premier League, he’d be worth £15m or £20m.

“It’s hard the way people see Scottish-based players, but we are in the Champions League and doing better than a lot of the clubs down there. If it does happen for Gary, I wish him all the best, but I hope he stays.”

Brown added: “I understand why teams like Norwich are looking at him and it’s only a matter of time before someone else puts a bid in for him.

“Of course we want to keep him. It’s huge, as we have a big game against Juventus.”

£35 on Carroll would still of been too much for that dumpling.

  • Celtic should be offering 25 grand to Hoops, story ended, instead of penny pinching as usual OUR feckin cash! 25+ mill made in Europe, 20+ mill made on season tickets and gates, not to mention Ki’s sale and all the other 5-10 million pound future transfers with a team that was assembled with 10 million, plus 49 quid for a Juve ticket – and they’re about to let our “best player” leave because they won’t make him 1 of the highest earners!

Get it sorted Lawell and stop f*ckin Gary about!!!

    HH

I agree. Pay him what he’s obviously worth, get him on a new contract, then sell him in the summer, if he wants to go.

  • Celtico102 says:

I think we’re doing just fine. He stays he goes we win either way. Hail hail

    • Arsenal fan says:

Of course you will win everything cuz your in a rubbish league with no compation if you do get beat that’s cuz either you had a bad day or the other team had a amazing game like you did in the CL against barca them sorts things happen Norwich vs arsenal and man united both 1:0 wins Celtic might get too greedy this window wanting 10m noone will pay you that or him 8m max and if you don’t accept say hello to 4-5m in the summer and if you still reject say hell to 0 million as people will just wait till the summer for a free. You have no chance vs juv and that’s the only thing he will stay for so cash In and stop moaning Austin would be better then him up there in a Micky mouse league.

      • Raymy says:

Well the arse bit is sure enough.

What’s it like being a mickey mouse team in a big league? Seeing as you’re the authority on winners and losers…..and you surely would he having lost the league, erland, how many times now?

        • Raymy says:

Feckin autocorrect fail. Always welcome when trying rip the p.p.

        • Ciaran says:

Comparing Norwich beating Arsenal to Celtic beating Barcelona is perfect arrogance. Arsenal will never be compared to Barcelona.
          Celtic often have.

      • paranoidandroid says:

I seem to remember that in the not to distant past we had “no chance, men against boys” against Blackburn, Liverpool, and Man Utd as well. How did we get on again?

      • barcabuster says:

Arsenal fan, are you familiar with the term “FUDD”?. You mind your business in your one horse race league, and we will do likewise in ours. BTW….At least we are the horse in our league! Hail Hail!

  • Gerry Bhoy says:

A lot of paper talk saying he’s not been offered a good deal. When did they ever get anything right? Just the usual crap from the MSM in Scotland. We don’t know what’s been offered but I’m sure it’s not peanuts. We gave him the platform to improve at the highest level & he has. If he want’s to stay, great but if he want’s to leave, then we get what we are due. Simple.

  • barcabuster says:

I agree, pay him his worth. We have raked it in(and not finished yet) this season, and it has been down to the players on the park. The same applies for Big Victor. Instead of looking at these players as cash in commodities, we should be looking at them as the multi million pound bargains that they are. We will not always unearth gems in the transfer markets! Holding these two, will virtually guarantee a sail through next season’s 3 qually rounds into the big purse CL again.Selling may be a false economy. I predict that one day, big Vic will hold up the CL cup. I want him in hoops when he does it!

  • Willie says:

Talksport this morning were linking Spurs with Hooper, think he would easily score goals galore for them. We don’t need to sell and despite the expert opinion of the Arse…we have beaten Juventus TWICE already in Scotland so no reason we can’t do it again.

We have a better chance than the Arse do v Bayern who are certainties to get through.

  • HoopNo7 says:

just shows the opinion of some of these fans down south… btw arse Arteta came via the scottish league and how much did your team pay for him?… anyways, if Celtic get top mula then ill be sad to see hoops go but look forward to one of our many promising talented strikers stepping up or new promising stars arrival… The futures bright, the futures….

  • sands1888 says:
