twitter Celtic newsBolton striker Marvin Sordell is being treated for an addiction to twitter!

Speaking to Radio Manchester his manager Dougie Freedman admitted: “He’s got small issues off the field with his tweeting. It could be bordering on an obsession, so we’re trying to work with him.”

Sordell moved to Bolton from Watford last February and has struggled to settle prompting his increased use of twitter and facebook.

Earlier this season he reported racist abuse he received at Millwall on his twitter account with a 13-year-old banned from attending the New Den after that incident.

Shortly afterwards Bolton skipper Kevin Davies urged his team-mate to quit twitter. He said: “If it was me, I would advise not to go on it.

“What are you gaining out of it as a 21/22-year-old? I don’t know. When it gets to a point where you are getting abuse I think it can play on your mind and affect you.

“If you are not sleeping at night wondering what you are going to wake up to, I don’t think you gain anything from being on there.”

Over the last three years twitter has almost become an essential part of a footballers lifestyle.

Rio Ferdinand and Joey Barton are among the most followed players on the social network with both having regular brushes with controversy.

Clubs and the football authorities warn the players that the content of their twitter accounts can land them in bother but even Alex Ferguson has been unable to control his players use of the social network.

There are no prolific Celtic players on twitter with most using it to thank supporters at various stages with re-tweets, forwarding on messages from their followers, very popular.

Sordell’s twitter and facebook accounts are currently suspended.

Stokesy seems to get a fair bit of abuse, while I’m sure Broony also gets plenty from some no marks…..although both experienced enough to handle it properly.
