Ben Hutchison Celtic newsBen Hutchison will get another look at the big time tomorrow when Conference side Mansfield host Liverpool in the FA Cup.

The forward was a surprise signing by Gordon Strachan from Middlesbrough in January 2008 but failed to break through at Celtic spending time on loan at Swindon, Lincoln and Dundee.

After being released by Neil Lennon in the summer of 2011 he had a brief spell at Kilmarnock before returning to his native Nottingham and joining Mansfield Town.

Hutchison has been in and out of the starting XI in recent weeks scoring three goals this season and appearing as a second half substitute in Tuesday’s 3-0 win away to Alferton.

The Stags are in mid-table after being relegated from the Football League in 2008 with the visit of Liverpool capturing the imagination of the town with the game being televised live.

Mansfield boss Paul Cox spent yesterday getting married with his focus fully on Liverpool by the time kick-off comes tomorrow.

Speaking before his wedding Cox said: “The way it’s fallen, it is going to be quite a weekend but it will all be fabulous for me.

“To play Liverpool in the FA Cup is a dream and it is a great birthday present for me.

“It will be a massive game for the club. The players, chairman and supporters all deserve it.

“I think the whole town is up for it. There is only a few days to go and everyone is ready for the big game. We want to give a good account of ourselves and make the supporters proud of our players.”

Good luck to the guy but I doubt he will make the step up to top pro level now.

Maybe just bad luck but we seem to be missing out when it comes to picking up talented young players from England.

Ben Hutchison, Matty Hughes, James Alabi, Rees Williamson and a striker from Liverpool John ?? all come to mind none of whom ever looked capable of holding down a regular first team berth.

Might be an attitude problem thinking they are better than they are or just finding it difficult being away from home at a young age, who knows.

We are doing better with prospects from Ireland, Czech, Australia etc showing the way though as well some very promising Scottish talent.

I will admit though Forster & Hooper show the talent is there is we look hard enough.
