Pat Nevin news

Pat Nevin has called for a ban on ball boys!

The former Scotland internationalist and Motherwell chief executive was speaking out after the sending off of Eden Hazard for kicking a ball boy during the Swansea v Chelsea Capital One Cup tie.

Swansea’s aggregate win over the Londoners has largely been ignored as the incident between Hazard and 17-year-p;d ball ‘boy’ Charlie Morgan hogs the headlines.

Former Chelsea winger Nevin admitted: “I would have kicked the ball out from underneath the ballboy if he had been lying like that, 100 per cent.

“And let’s get this in some perspective. He hasn’t hurt the ballboy. The ballboy has behaved disgracefully.

“I was very disappointed by the way he acted, and I say ‘acted’. He must have been watching footballers, the way he rolled around and pretended to be injured.

“He only has one job — to give the ball back — and what did he do? He keeps the ball. And if I was chairman of the PFA right now I’d be calling for ballboys to be banned.

“And that is a real shame because it’s lovely that these youngsters can be part of the game.”

Hazard is likely to be handed a three match ban from the FA and could face a police investigation into the matter.

Swansea and Chelsea were both keen to play the incident down after the match highlighting how Morgan had visited the Chelsea dressing room and spoken with Hazard.

South Wales Police however have received three complaints from the public about the matter and are duty bound to investigate the matter further.

While I hate to agree with Pat Nevin about anything, I think this particular ballboy should be banned.

When you are 17 you should let the younger kids take your place and not behave so disgracefully. Hazard might as well had a proper kick at him anyway.

  • wonky says:

I cannot believe that any grown man could offer up any excuses for Hazard’s behaviour. Have we degenerated so deeply into yob culture that we think kicking kids is somehow acceptable.

What if he had really hurt the boy? What Hazard did was reckless and unprecedented and if we excuse it we risk falling down a slippery slope into total amorality- football is bad enough as it is.

At the end of the day it is only a game, a sport, and for people to rationalise this sort of thuggish behaviour is disgusting and dangerous.

Nevins a tit the ballboy would have slaped the little runt if he had done it, If there is time wasting of any kind the ref will add time on the wee guy was a bit of a arse doing what he done but hazard should have walked away and let the ref deal with it . Nevins a tosser hope he still takes his boy to hibs games . HH

  • dave says:

Forget ball boys, the time wasted by them is minimal what we should be concentrating is getting players to stop time wasting and entertain the paying supporters as they’re supposed too. Why don’t the media start pressurising players to behave first after all its them that are setting a bad example as is mr. Nevin by saying he would have done the same thing. he says the lad wasn’t hurt, maybe so but the point is he could have been!

  • udoka says:

it’s obvious he meant what he was doing, because he sayed it even before the game via tweeter. ‘ball boy back for time wasting’what that suppose to mean

  • SJY says:

Every time Pat sees ball boys behaving badly he will speak out fearlessly against it

    Or maybe not

  • KevinBarry says:

The thing I find most peculiar is that pat nevin gets asked his opinions on things. The guy is a total dobber.

  • Mick says:

The late great Jock Stein used to have a get togethr with ballboys prior to European home matches and issued instructions for them to take their time if Celtic were leading and of course return the ball in double quick time if they were losing. What a typical load of tosh from Nevin

  • Stevie says:

17 or not any player kicking or attempting to kick a ball boy or any member of the public is a disgrace.
Time wasting is part of the game, is it right, no way.

  • paul McCann says:

  • jp says:

Ball boy should be banned if hazards getting a fine and ban then so should the ball boy and time wasting is not part of the game. It ruins the game.
