Cup joy for Jackie as Sevco lose the plot at Tannadice

|

Jackie McNamara news

Jackie McNamara enjoyed a dream start to managing Dundee United by beating Sevco to reach the last eight of the Scottish Cup.

Three days after taking over the Tannadice hotseat the former Partick Thistle boss masterminded the exit of Ally McCoist’s highly paid side to give the home fans something to cheer about.

The gulf between the two teams was evident throughout the match with the Third Division leaders unable to live with the power and pace of goalscorers Johnny Russell and Jon Daly.

After ten games without a home win United got off to the perfect start when Russell slammed the ball past Neil Alexander with just 15 seconds on the clock.

The Third Division side were chasing shadows as United dominated the game with Russell and Gary Mackay Steven causing all sorts of problems for the visitors.

Russell smashed a shot off the crossbar in the 15th minute with United opening up the visitors defence at will.

The second goal duly arrived in the 35th minute with the Sevco defence once again carved open  Jon Daly powered a header past Alexander from a Willo Flood free kick.

Before the interval the lumbering Ross Perry was replaced by Chris Perry with Ross Wallace, Kyle Hutton and Emilson Cribari earning yellow cards.

Despite having a two goal advantage United fell out the game badly in the second half but other than a 25 yard drive from Ian Black that flew past the post there was little to trouble the home side.

Eleven minutes from the final whistle the Russell and Daly partnership struck again with the Irish poking the ball through the visitors defence for Russell to poke the ball under Alexander into the net.

Sevco’s misery was completed in the last five minutes when Kal Naismith and Ian Black were sent off.

  • Ciaran says:

Can it possibly be in a clubs DNA to have such thuggish behaviour? Every time they find themselves behind in a cup tie they resort to violence. On and off the park. Is it co-incidence or is it coming from the management??

  • Shamrock hoops says:

I think we can all agree that the tribute act were shocking today!! Well done the Arabs!!

  • Chris says:

Both sendings off were in the last 10 minutes when they were already 3-0 down and the game.was done so their fans cant hit out with shit like ‘we lost the game because such and such got sent off’ or ‘ths ref was against us’, how does justice taste charles green ya melon? Lol

  • Joe says:

Has there eer been a manager in football who has managed his club, in this case two clubs, to elimination from more cups than Ally McCoist has?
He has been amaage for approximately one and a half seasons and manage his way to elimination in every cup available to him, as well as managing his first club into liquidation! Quite a record eh? He has to be the top of that league!

  • PJ44 says:

Disappointed with no show from servo management after the game.maybe he was with Chico begging for more time to deliver a team to match S P L standard as well as wages.Come on Lord Nimmo put them out of their misery.H,,H

Rangers were hopeless the day big time. A just hope they jokers that turned up at hampden last wkend are at the races the mora. The boy wallace is a decent player, but the rest are absolute pants. A wish the hoops would have got we johnny russell, the we mans lightning quick, and got a peach of a left foot on him.

    • mark says:

Who the f*** are rangers mate ? the only rangers I know are queens park rangers, berwick rangers and the old shite rangers who are pan bread and wallace is sh** that’s why he plays in the 3rd division with the rest of the dross. HH

      • Monti says:

        Agreed

        • Mharkopolo says:

i think wallace was at fault for at least the first 2 goals haha! hes push along with the rest!! the players that moved to sevco from the spl teams (sandaza, black etc) must be wondering what the hell they were thinking when they moved there, hopefully they’ve realised that theyre god awful! in their league theyre just like a dwarf among midgets!

  • Shamrock hoops says:

What about black with hand gestures twice, 1 to DU fans and 1 to DU player during game, then pretends to throw corner flag into DU support, imagine if that was a hoops player?

  • Paulo says:

    Fat Ally must stay

    • Joe says:

Yeah. I agree. They need hom to target more recrds for eliminations. Maybe he should start putting a star on their shirts for every competition his teams have been dumped from in a single calendar year.

  • HoopNo7 says:

Weeey! GIRFUY FAT SALLY! We wont be seeing you’s lot of cheatin rats anytime soon! Enjoy your long road back to the top because its gonna be a loooong road! ICT now Dundee Utd….. Celts would run a cricket score against these charlatans! hh!

  • Monti says:

Has Chuckles told the public what charity the Orcs percentage of the gate is being awarded to? Maybe they could give it to SCIAF! Or SINN FEIN!

  • paulybhoy says:

Another record the oldest young manager ever

  • Buffythecat says:

United totally played in second gear for most of the game. Sevco hadn’t a clue and looked like a Highland League team that were more than out of their depth.

No wonder the Tartan army boo’d the thug that is Black. He sums up Sevco entirely. The boycott was just a convenient way to avoiding watching their overrated and overpaid zombies get stuffed by a half decent SPL team.

Soon be the Big Countdown of the titles. . .cant wait to hear the growling bears.

Mensing says “Commons was clever and went down easily”, he should have said “I’m a bit thick and lunged in”.
