Commons: When you walk out it’s a weird feeling

|

Kris Commons newsKris Commons can’t wait to feel the magic of another Champions League night at Celtic Park.

Just over two years ago promotion from the Championship was his target but after tasting the greatest competition in the game the midfielder is hungry for more.

Commons’ penalty kick against Spartak Moscow earned Celtic their place in the last eight with Juventus about to find out just how special Celtic Park can be on European nights.

“They get paid incredible wages to deal with that and play in these arenas,” Commons stated. “But the atmosphere at Parkhead gives us a lift and increases our game. I think that’s why we are more than capable of beating the best teams in Europe because of our fans.

“When you walk out it’s a weird feeling. You try to stay as calm as possible and you get all this advice from people telling you not to let the crowd affect how you play, but it’s hard to do that.

“I’m 29 now and experience has told me that you’ve just got to relax and concentrate on your own game and try to ignore the crowd.

“But when you are playing well you want to lift the crowd, take inspiration and put the pressure on Juventus. They are in for a tough night.”

Commons added: “It feels like it’s been a long time coming, probably about two and a half months, so I just hope it doesn’t pass us by. We have to take the opportunity by putting in the kind of performance we know we are capable of at Celtic Park.

“Once that music starts and the crowd get behind us, it’s moments like that when you really feel blessed as a footballer but we need to grasp it.

“In the three Champions League games that we’ve played at Celtic Park we have stood up and been counted and raised our games.

“There’s nothing you can overlook tactics, meetings, all of it has to be done right to the bone but when it comes to the crunch all 11 men on the park have to raise their games a little bit more.

“This is the biggest game of my career. I don’t think many guys in our dressing room could say they’ve had a chance before to qualify for the last eight of the Champions League. So it’s the biggest game I’ve had a chance to be part of. It’s a huge game but we’ve earned it.”

Sevco are a disgrace!! They actually OFFERED Juventus training facilities!! You have to laugh eh? • Monti says:

I wonder if someone had a word with the Juventus players not to bless themselves at the training ground, would upset the peepel! Rats.

Kris Commons laughs off Rangers cheeky offer to help Juventus knock Celtic out of Europe

Commons said: “Juventus can train in my back garden, it would make no difference. If they want to prepare at a Division Three training ground ?let them get on with it.” Record Sport understands Juventus will train at Murray Park this morning and Gers have pushed their own session back to this afternoon to accommodate the Italians.

  • Mick67 says:

Just been told that the Juv players were training at MP today one said to another “what’s that over there coming over the hill” the other said “it’s the Tax Man” AGAIN.
