Lewis Toshney Jackson Irvine Celtic newsLewis Toshney admits that he is playing for his footballing future.

The Celtic defender is on loan at Dundee and could face a championship and relegation in the same season.

Dundee were the real victims in the summer dithering of Neil Doncaster and Stewart Regan with Barry Smith given less than a fortnight to convert a First Division squad into one capable of playing in the SPL.

After a seven year exile from the top flight the dark blues look like returning to the First Division after the briefest of breaks.

Toshney moved out on loan at the start of the season and after spells at Kilmarnock and Dundee could be on the move again next season.

“I don’t know where I will be next season so on a personal level I’ve got a lot to play for,” he admitted.

“Last year I was playing for Celtic in the Next Generation tournament against the likes of Barcelona but despite the glamour of playing in those games, going out on loan has been far better for my career.

“I have developed as a player and feel like I’ve learned a lot over the past year.”

Looking at his unique dual role he added: “Just because I’m on loan here doesn’t mean I feel it any less.

“The club has been through so much and spent so long in the First Division that people don’t want to go back there.

“Because of being from the city I feel the pressure on us. There are a lot of people I know watching every week and telling me if we’ve done well or not.”
